Afternoon Sun

Here in Deering Oaks, the late afternoon sun and the shadows it casts take the stage and dance their routine. As you can see, there's still some pretty deep snow in here. The many trees tend to shelter the area and keep snow cover down but not this year. It's so interesting how the sun or lack of it and the time of day can make many parts of the city almost unrecognizable at first glance. This place is such a a quiet respite amid all our small city noise. Take time this weekend, and stop and smell the snow!

  1. Great long shadows and the end of day flash of sunlight... The winter afternoon has a special look no matter where you are but the full carpet of snow under these trees is beautiful.

    Have a warm weekend!

  2. The snow is clean and pristine, unlike ours which is on the street and slowly melting...thank goodness. I definitely prefer this peaceful, beautiful scene.

  3. Our snow is dirty and rising like ugly waves on either side of the roads and walkways. I don't think I want to smell it too closely, thank you very much.

  7. Birdman -- I should have taken the time to smell the snow a week ago -- now it's all gone. Good shot. -- barbara

  8. It is a lovely scene! There will be no snow smelling here this weekend. It is a sunny 80 degrees today and we are supposed to have the same weather all weekend!

  9. I wish I could smell the snow. This winter light is so beautiful.

Grey, grey, grey here with rain forecasted. It's been grey, grey, grey for as long as I can remember.

  10. It is wonderful photographing in the snow - but it is so cold sometimes! Our snow in Toronto has disappeared over the last 2 days.
