Walled Postcard

Postcard Portland. Got a kick out of this yesterday. The wall on the backside of the Asylum nightclub, that is constantly 'occupied' with graffiti, has been resprayed with the iconic Postcard Portland. In this tight spot, it was hard to get a better shot, but believe me it's BRIGHT! I love how Portland Headlight is depicted as a spray can. Hilarious! And it quite a redirection from its last few features; eerie Stephen King novels, and before that George Bush and Armageddon. I hear it took the eight street artists a week or so to complete the wall. How long it will last is anyone's guess, but for now it looks just fine.

  3. Excellent artwork... Some graffiti is horrible --and other works become real art... That's really nice!!!! Hope people leave it alone for awhile.

  4. I do like this postcard. Sometimes art itself will deter graffiti artists.

  6. Very creative for sure. I would be accepting of this graffiti. At least for awhile.

"Zombies are women, too..." Gad, you're a riot!

  12. Hi, Birdman. I'm back. More interesting posts from Portland while I have been away. This one is terrific. I usually dislike graffiti, but this one is so artistically (and colorfully) done.

  14. In response:

    1) The accusations are correct.

    2) We are not native to Florida, we have lived in a variety of places in the States. Moved to Florida in 1985. Lived in south Florida until our move to Ocala 7 years ago.

We do not live in The Villages. The Villages are about 35 miles south. We almost bought there, but decided it was way too crowded. There are now 35-40,000 homes and over 80,000 people. Golf carts try to run you over. We do go down there frequently, however, 'cause it's great fun.

    We live in Ocala.

    3) Jacob was my pen name but I'm not writing much anymore therefore decided to go back to my given name. Don't ask, you wouldn't have read anything I wrote!

Doth all that satisfy thy curiosity my funny friend? :-)

  15. Love it. I think you should take a closeup of each letter so we can see the artwork.

  16. After the movie titled Enter through the Gift Shop, I've grown more interested in and accepting of street art. How do you argue with the vitality of this, especially compared what would be on that wall without the painting?

Thanks for the visit, by the way.

  20. When I looked at the thumbnail I thought it was one of those Oakland murals by our colleague Carolyn. I'd rather not pay postage on that card, though.

  21. I'm surprised that you found a postcard! They're in short supply in this city thanks to the internet and gmail. I still have a collection, tho, and love them...esp these city cards...when I can find them. Great idea to use the design for the mural.
