Silver Bus

Enjoy winter sports?
Well, if you are an aficionado of ice fishing, downhill or cross country skiing or snowmobiling, there's room at the inn. Come on up to Maine! Otherwise, if I were you I'd follow the plan of most of our relatives. Wait until summer. You're thinking spring? Well, again you might be disappointed. You see really, there is no spring in our state. There's mud-season, but really winter usually ends sometime in early May... weather-wise. I can never recall measurable snow in May, but I wouldn't bet on it. Ever!
Foreigner, braved a blizzard, and came to Maine in February. This is their bus on Spring Street.
"I Want to Know What Love Is"
"Waiting for a Girl Like You"
"Urgent"
"Juke Box Hero"
"Double Vision"
"Say You Will"
"Feels Like the First Time"
"Hot Blooded"
"Blue Morning, Blue Day"
and of course, just for Maine... "Cold As Ice"
Hey, but like my relatives... they're back in the state on July 5th.

  1. Sounds like your relatives are fair weather friends. Can't say that I blame them, tho!
Spring actually is a lovely season, mud or no mud; it promises all kinds of new life.

  2. I second your opinion. My one trip to Maine was in May and it was too early. I enjoyed myself and ate really well down on the coast but it was cold.

  3. Re the bus in Maine in Winter: Some people have more money than sense! It's still too cold to sing a happy tune!

  5. Yeah, it's always darkest just before dawn. Spring will eventually show up, the snow melt, and the ground turn semi-liquid. As they say around here, "Our weather keeps the riff-raff out."

  6. That would have been a great concert to see.

  7. Indeed! Some Minnesotans say we have only two seasons here. Winter and road repair...:)

  8. I distinctly remember going hiking in the Adirondacks on the last day of May and encountering 18" of snow. That's when I decided to move to Virginia. :-)

  9. Oh, but Birdman, there IS springtime in the light, you can see it & if you stand in it, you can feel it (well, a little bit) ! It isn't the light of winter, I swear! I agree about May: it's usually full peak spring in Maine in Mid-May in my experience & I think, personally, an ideal time in this state. No bugs, no heat wave, gorgeous varied colors & the outdoor air! As far as Foreigner, this is a band that you young people listen to?

  10. One of my favorite bands. As a native Floridian, all I can say is I don't mind visiting colder climates in the winter, as long as I get to come home eventually and thaw out!

  11. I seem to remember the Maine of my youth as having both mud and black fly season. However those 7 or 8 weeks of summer sure are nice.

  13. I've spent some chilly evenings on my summer trips to Rockport. Weather weenies like me can't imagine a whole winter in Maine or Montreal or Minnesota. And you're not finished. I think we are.

  16. Your photos and your posts always go together so well. I really enjoy them, Birdman. And if you come back to Portland, Oregon, or should I say, when you come back to Portland, I want to treat you and yours at the Blue Diamond, OK? Thanks!

  17. When my dad was stationed at Loring AFB (Limestone AFB) he always said this was the state that only had 3 seasons....summer (short) Fall (short) winter (long).

  18. The wonderful thing about a cold winter is you breathe in that ice cold air that cuts your throat... and it makes you feel so utterly alive!

I know, some of us are silly.
