Gull Time

Let me tell you this right off the bat, Birdie. Your chances of getting any Doritos, my lunch today of cottage cheese, walnuts, grapes, blueberries and raisins, as disgusting as it sounds, or even a morsel of my Mom's potato salad is just about zilch! So move away from our blanket and chairs and go hustle someone else's lunch, while they are wading in the water or visiting the restroom. Life at the beach, when it's hot and humid inland, is so relaxing but fraught with peril.

PS. Sending big HAPPY B-Day wishes to Bruce sailboardoing at Hood River today!

  1. Gully, what a beautiful bird, even tho I consider them merely rats with wings. Fend them off, birdman!!

  4. Nice portrait, like a watercolour.

It wouldn't have gotten any of my cake either. It would only end up diabetic.

  6. I'm glad I'm not the only one who talks to gulls - and my MOST favorite lunch is: cottage cheese, walnuts, almonds, dates, bananas. YUMMMM.

  7. What a wonderful shot Birdman, his (or her!) markings are so clear, definitely looks like he's got his eye on you though, don't take your eyes off anything!!

  8. What birdman doesn't tell you is that that day at the beach there were two little girls that came back from a swim and started screaming, "Mom! Mom! The seagulls ate our cheeseburgers!"
I did notice about 20 seagulls swooping in to my right a few minutes before.
    The scene of the crime.
Wonder where their mom was at the time?? She was not watching them swim, that much I know.

  12. This one has such a cute freckled face, I'd have a hard time resisting the urge to give him just one Dorito.

  16. I don't even know if gulls deserve the bad rap they get... you know, like rats, mosquitoes, pigeons and stray cats. Probably. Still, they are photogenic. Can't tell you how many shots of seagulls I've taken... But no, no lunch sharing... shoo, shoo!

  20. These guys will hang around FOREVER if there is a hint of food!

  21. I am used to fight them (not literally) on my terrace. The only good thing they do in town is that they kill the pigeons!

  23. Hate to tell you, Birdman, but this bird is passing on your lunch today. The guy two blankets over has lobster salad and is yawning . . .

  24. Ah, c'mon, cut them some slack. They don't have farms or supermarkets. No harm in asking.
