Vote

Finally, finally our country's long nightmare is over. Well, it will be  at 8 PM tonight. Voting booths will close, candidates will shut up and America will speak. That's the easy part. Hard part... the next day. First, let me say this right off the bat. I'm voting. Always have. Can't ever remember ever not doing my duty. But having survived the last 2 years of endless candidates chattering senselessly, I must say this. The two party system, as we see it today, is killing this country! As soon as the election is decided, the two parties will recommence battering each other over the head, for the 'love' of the party not our country. Forget who comes out on top tomorrow evening. It's really not going to matter very much. You can shuffle the cards anyway you like, but we can't move this country forward given the players in Congress and their ingrained mindset. You can scream liberty, change, freedom all you want, but the bottomline is, it's probably not going to matter much. Whichever party loses has 4 years to knock the other party's guy 'out of the saddle'. All this crap begins Wednesday. Don't believe me. Just watch!

  1. Our political system is broken and I don't think there's a way to fix it.

  6. Agree with you 100%. I voted, and am waiting....but I do think that if 'the other guy' gets in, there will be some not so good changes.

  7. I think I saw a headline this morning when at a cafe: Election a BATTLEGROUND. The thing is, the media loves this stuff & it's been so much blah blah blah... As the noter above, I do think that there is a difference between the democrat guy & the republican guy, especially in regard to schools, services, the humanistic stuff...

  8. All too true! I'd very much like to get a breather but, I doubt that will happen.

  9. I'm not so pessimistic. The problem is that most people don't pay attention until the presidential election. Americans need to be involved at the lowest level: city council, school board, tax collector etc. Those are proving grounds for politicians before they work their way up to higher office. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people do not vote in local elections.

  12. In Portugal we have 5 or 6 parties with seats on the parliament. The thing is only the major two parties have alternately ruled this country since the fall of dictatorship in 1974. Both have ruined this small piece of land, just look at our economy now! It seems that, FINALLY, people don't believe them anymore.

  13. I'll be glad to hear the end of it - even our news up in Canada is all about your election and all the ugly ads but at least we don't see the ads.

  16. Our main two parties are Liberal and Labour, but right now we have a coalition government where the Greens/Labour are 'strange bedfellows' I think it's doing ok and I much prefer Julia Gillard to Tony Abbott, the man is a joke, but politics eh! as SRQ says we all need to become much more involved in the politics of our countries..but it's probably not going to happen!
