Spidery Web

I thought the old mill, the trees, the mist off the river and a bit o' fog might make an interesting image the other morning. Now that I look at it, it reminds me of a fly caught in a spider's handicraft. That song from Out of Our Heads, one of my favorite Stones albums, is ringing in my head.

Spider and the Fly
Jagger/Richards

Sittin' thinkin' sinkin' drinkin
Wondering what I'd do when I'm through tonight
Smoking moping, maybe just hopin
Some little girl will pass on by
Don't wanna be alone but I love my girl at home
I remember what she said
She said, "My, my, my don't tell lies, keep fidelity in your head
My my my, don't tell lies. When you're done you should go to bed
Don't say hi, like a spider to a fly
Jump right ahead and you're dead"
Sit up, fed up, low down go round
Down to the bar at the place I'm at
Sitting drinking, supereficially thinking
About the rinsed-out blonde on my left
Then I said, "hi" like a spider to a fly
Remebering what my little girl said
She was common, flirty, she looked about thirty
I would have run away but I was on my own
She told me later she's a machine operator
She said she liked the way I held the microphone
I said my, my, like the spider to the fly
Jump right ahead in my web

  1. Okay. Really. I mean: those are not the most poetic lyrics . . . :))

  3. Me thinks they knew from whence they spoke (or in this case sang).

  4. There's only one thing to do with a spider in a web! SQUISH!! No really if you saw some of our Aussie spiders you'd do the same!! Umm, were we talking spiders haha!

  5. I'm sitting here listening to Psychedelic Sunday on the radio with lots of Stones, and Bowie, etc so this post fits right in!

  6. The closed mill, the fog, and the lyrics are all sad. Spiders are fine as long as they are in their own space, and not mine.

  7. Ah, how your mind does spin, sir, in such a creative manner. I like partaking of everyone's personal frames of reference in these blog posts. Such a great way to spend some time, looking and reading. And, I love this photo! Who would ever have thought so many teensy branches await spring, when they will become the home of too many leaves to count?

  8. Oh, do I remember that song. The first two lines remind be of my sullen college days. But, hey, we're grown up. Let us be of good cheer.
