Drew Mysteries

Happy, Happy. Joy Joy! Happy Birthday to my sister in sunny Florida today!

Whenever I see one of these old, blue covered Nancy Drews I think of her. She had a large collection in her bedroom, and there was a time when it seemed her face was always stuck in one. She also had some of the newer, yellow covered ones with a picture to grab the reader. I read a few. A favorite was "The Secret of the Old Clock". The Hardy Boys, of course, were a favorite collection of mine, along with a series about life at the service academies: "Midshipman... something." Reading... the great escape!

  1. Happy birthday. Sounds like I'd like to read those even now in old age.

  2. I had my face in those books for years.
They are still sold over here....
I liked your image, text and congratulations to your sister.

(Perhaps my husband will send me a congratulation as an sms today?
He has not said anything yet.... lunch time now. :)

  5. I dearly love tributes of any sort to friends and relatives; may your sister have a happy day. I was a voracious reader as a child but somehow I never got into the Nancy Drew books. Perhaps I should give them a look now! PS. After today, come visit me on my Mazatlán, México blog!!

  11. I devoured them all! Wasn't Carolyn Keene also the author of the Hardy Boys and the Bobsey Twins? Anyway, I hope your sister's special day is full of fun and low on mysteries.

  13. I discovered Nancy Drew in 6th grade. A classmate's had dozens of them--gifts from her mom. She lent me a stack of her books every week. I dove into them and hardly came up for air until I made my way through the stack. The next week I'd get a new stack from her. A sweet gesture that I continue to appreciate even now.
