Wooden Frame

Our favorite hangout for mussels in wine sauce is Fore Street. To die for? Well, I don't know if I want to go to that degree, but they are the best that I've sampled. An order of mussels, resting in an ample supply of sauce, with their bread... now, that's a meal! I've told this tale before, but growing up Catholic in Maine-- Fridays were all about fish. But even I have to admit, it's a long way from that plate of fish sticks to my affection for sushi. I first sampled it in Toronto at a Blue Jays game five years ago. Liked it then; LOVE sushi now.

  3. What a unique doorway! You may be more Japanese than I am...I love sushi but can only eat cucumber wraps and egg sushi. My co-workers think I'm crazy for being vegetarian :-D

  4. I love mussels and think that "sopping" up the sauce with crusty French bread is divine! How did you make it until 4 years ago without sushi?

  5. Yes, i love sushi too. So glad it seems to be growing in popularity here in Little Rock (though we are so land locked, they must be farm raised...or catfish!) That's a great wooden frame.

  8. That's a lot of timber. I like it.

    Can't warm up to cold fish, though it's tasted OK and I've survived the few times I've tried it. Fish sticks! That takes me back. Loved 'em.

  12. Now, this looks like my kind of place! I have been in Portland many times, but I am struggling to remember this place. Oysters? Umm, you can have mine. Sushi? Oh yeah, I love sushi. New England boys like you and I weren't raised on sushi, but we have shown ourselves to be good learners, albeit late.

  14. Well, that is some "fish" story! I have to admit I've never tasted mussels nor I have been tempted by sushi. To each his/her own. I will eat shrimp properly prepared. And crab meat is OK.

    But who cares? This doth indeed look like a fine food emporium and I am very glad that a New England boy like thyself has such a place at which to tease his palate when he so desires. :-)

    Is that a spittoon on the left side of the door?

  15. I never had mussels that I know of. I seldom get to eat products from the sea and don't know why. I guess it comes from where I have lived all my life.

  16. Sushi...mmmm...they look pretty! But I hate to eat uncooked fish. I consider Sushi as a nice dinner table decor :D But I love mussels and every other sea food. You have a nice picture to accompany a Sushi story.

  17. I find myself coming back to your blog as much for the stories as the pictures, although they are very good.I did the fish sticks on Friday as a child, too, but I haven't learned to like sushi. I eat it, my kids are wild about it and I've been to Japan a few times but it still doesn't move me.
