Day Four

Off in the distance, not seen in this photograph, is Mt St. Helens. On a clear day you can almost see forever. This chime is on the back deck of my sister's house in Lake Oswego, Oregon. It reminds me of pictures of prayer flags and bells at one of the early base camps at Mt. Everest. Why does this come to mind? When we visited Timberline Lodge, at the foot of Mt. Hood just off the parking lot, I saw a mass of prayer flags waving in the steady breeze. There was some sort of rally taking place in the campaign to Save Tibet. There was dancing, singing of songs and the burning of incense going on. After seeing this, I headed to the lodge for a martini to help the cause.

  3. Love these little unobtrusive objects that become part of a landscape. PS. Send me your email offline and I'll answer your question about the Golden Gophers...too long for this commentary. My email is listed with my profile. Have a good Sunday!

  7. Yes, the first thing this made me think of was a Japanese torii gate (except they don't have bells). The long strings of prayer flags in the Tibetan wilderness are very moving. I'd be pessimistic about rallies like that helping Tibetans - the Chinese have them under their heel.

  8. How can you not like Oregon/Washington, some of my favorite places. Beautiful nature, fascinating mix of cultures with an eastern conncetion, moody weather that photographers find attractive. Very cool image.

  11. Great image ... yep, would be there for a martini as well. Thanks for dropping by ... like what I see here and look forward to following you!

Also, love both Portlands but Maine is my fave. Every year we spend time up in Maine in September before the maddening crowds arrive. Camden and Boothbay Harbor are our haunts.

  12. Hey, Hey, I helped the cause as well!!! With an Appletini, sitting on a stone veranda with snow at our feet on Mount Hood, specifically the Timberline Lodge. Wearing shorts and t shirts watching the skiers traipse back and forth. Staring at another mountain in the Cascade Mountain Range, also covered in snow.
If sipping martinis helps Tibet, then Tibet is in very good shape.

  13. Wonderful image... as a child I used to have dreams (in my sleep) of being in Tibet. It was probably the most exotic place I could imagine at the time.

I'll have some of that Oregon wine myself!
