Dog Fog

Fog, a cloudlike mass of minute water droplets forming near the earth's surface.

Usually, the view is the water of Casco Bay straight ahead, but not these last few mornings. We've been fogged in, bigtime! Of course, if this was California, they'd call this the early morning marine layer. Here in New England, we just call it fog. We don't give it some fancy name, so the talking heads in the weather department will feel comfortable in front of their green screens talking weather. If the weather guys and gals on the 'left coast' ever got transferred Downeast, they'd need some intense counseling sessions to get them 'off the ledge', so to speak. Of course, when my friends out West see the word FOG, they probably head right to the acronym 'free online games' anyway. But I digress. I'll end by just saying that fog feels great, looks great, smells great and is not just weather for dogs.

  1. A good owner, taking the dogs out for a walk even if the weather isn't the brightest.

  7. ...and my mom always said it's good for one's complexion...and it gives my fine thin hair a little lift. One doesn't have to squint, preventing wrinkles they say, or wear one's sunhat which makes hat hair (important reason to like fog: Vanity) Fog forces one's attention to close up details...takes the pressure off of having to take in all those colors, forms & shadows that appear in a sunny landscape...And one can still walk (fast) in the fog unless one is one who is sitting on the bench watching other ones excercise, Teeheehee!

  8. Thanks for making me smile. At first I though you made up the phrase "early morning marine layer"...but no, it's for real!

  9. What's amazing to me is that once the fog burns off it's likely to be hot weather the rest of the day. Not so likely with our fog here in the Bay Area. It's our natural air conditioner.

  13. I love, love, love this picture today. I really do enjoy fog but, living in the desert we rarely get to see it. Every now and then in the winter months we might see some and when we do, I'm out there with my camera to see what I can capture. Week after next, I'm headed to California for a few days so maybe I'll see some of the "marine layer" stuff too.

  14. Hmmm...is there some reason you don't like the west coast of this fine country?

Fog is nice, if 1) you don't have to drive in it, fly in it, or sail in it; and 2) you don't have to play golf in it.

Later, in the fall, I will be playing golf in the fog. Yes, we do have fog in Florida. North Central Florida. Not south Florida. Talking weather heads in south Florida wouldn't even know what to talk about if they encountered fog.

    :-)

  17. Yup. Fog can be nice. But, give me a blue sky on a September day any old time. Mid 70s during the day, cooler at night. Mmmmm. (Nice image.)

  18. That's really funny (and the picture is pretty good, too). Maine is less frivolous than California, isn't it?

  20. We call it fog here too. I don't mind it much unless I'm driving in it, especially at night.

  21. Fog is not very usual here so, everytime it happens, I truly enjoy it. Lovely pic.
