Wine Corks
Why do restaurants to this? It seems to be the latest kick around here. Ya, I know out in California they stopped doing this 5 years ago or so. Up here in the corner, Northeast, we seem to be the last place to sample new trends, like filling restaurant windows with used wine corks. I think that this 'last to get it' lifestyle is one of the big draws to living here though. It has a good, easy, well defined pace to it, I think. It's not the big city rush of say Boston, but at the same time it ain't no whistle-stop, one horse town either. Of course, I'm exaggerating a bit here, but as Goldilocks might have said, had she visited Portland with her buddies the three bears in that classic tale: 'that city's way too big; another city's way too small; but this city, this Portland, is just right!' So, I'll take it, stupid wine corks in the window and all. I'll drink to that!

trop de vin et voit tout trouble ;))
ReplyDeleteIt's dumb. And I think you may have dipped too deeply into the vino. Heh?
ReplyDeleteBut I do give you credit for advancing the cause of your city. What's the name of it again? Corks in windows, indeed.
Put a cork in it, BM!
Just kidding! Have a nice week and while I know this is hard, try to stay out of trouble!
Love the Goldilocks visiting Portland tale!! Different sizes of corks too? :)
ReplyDeleteI guess we're behind the times in Toronto too. I've never seen this kind of window decoration done anywhere. I guess it's a way to reuse! :)
ReplyDeleteha ha
ReplyDeleteYou (and I) will drink to anything!
Cheers!
Just need to add that I grew up outside of New York City. Moved to the Portland area after I got a job in said city. I was only going to stay one year. 41 years later......
ReplyDeleteThe rest is history.
Of course, I met Birdman that first year......<3
Maybe the corks are good insulation?! Also: what about Camden? Too small?
ReplyDeleteI've never seen corks in the windows in Boston. Are you sure it's a California thing come Down East and not something peculiarly indigenous to Maine? As for Goldilocks, she must not have visited Boston.
ReplyDeleteNo corks in the windows here either! Looks like you got some some reflections in this shot.
ReplyDeleteI meant some "nice" reflections. Not quite awake yet.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen them stacked up in windows but, I've seen plenty of big glass vases full of them.
ReplyDeleteAlthough St. Paul is considerably larger than your city, we have neighborhood "pockets" that give the same small town feeling with the advantage of perks that the larger cities have to offer. It's always great to love the city in which you live, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteha ha. :)
ReplyDeleteHere they fill demijohns with corks!
ReplyDeleteLol, can you still look out of the windows?
ReplyDeleteI've never seen this here in Toronto either!
ReplyDeleteWow, I have never seen this in my life =) I actually find it kind of cool - haha ))

Restaurants around here (SD) don't do this. But my wife saves wine bottle corks to use as "resist" in dying fabric. We have a bag full of corks somewhere around the house. BTW, nice reflections.
ReplyDelete*Sigh* Sadly I live in a dry county, for real. So, this trend shall never make it to our local restaurants.
ReplyDeleteAnd he never did grow up... that's why we love him!
ReplyDeleteYo ho!
Lakeland sis Checks In!
Oops I'm a couple of days behind...this should have been the Pirate comment! I'll drink to that!
ReplyDeleteOk so, Lakeland sis checks in again!
I look at it as a sign that the wine and the service is good so I might stop in for a glass.
ReplyDeleteToo funny, Stupid Wine Corks! The thing is, I suspect you are a person who would always find that just right home/spot/city/activity/culture...I too love this town, but lately i'm missing some of those whistle stop towns up north...
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Toronto must be even smaller that Portland. :))
ReplyDeleteHow did you get a picture of my trash can?
ReplyDeleteEveryone has their own idea of what's "just right" I feel that way about St. Louis.
there used to be a local photo shop that did this with film containers. emphasis on the "used to be."
ReplyDeleteCheers Birdman and well said!! The 'Goldilocks' parallel is exactly how I feel about Perth...it's juuuust right!!
