What?
Huh?
Come again?
Today, September 1, 2015 is Theme Day across the world-wide CDP(citydailyphotoblog) community. The theme this month is 'Curiosities', and I think Andy Rosen's installation at the Grand Trunk railroad pier "Unpack" falls somewhere into this theme. The pack of dogs is constructed with PVC and fake fur and has been attracting quite a few onlookers since it was installed in July. On the gloomy, gray-covered, early morning that I arrived alone to check out the elusive pack, my reaction to the sculpture was more downright creepy then in anyway curious.
It's up until the late fall.
It might look pretty cool in an early November snow.
I might be 'curious' to see it then.
For now though, creepsville!
Wow, how weird and wonderful

Trip was great, but being without internet made me miss you and all my friends!
Goodness me!!! this is very curious indeed Birdman, will look amazing if it's left there until it snows, you will have to go back and take that shot.

ReplyDeleteI agree, a bit creepy.
ReplyDeleteSome of the body language of the dogs reminds me of hyenas. Artists nowadays have to employ the shock'n'awe factor to get any traction. It does not make me in the least curious, however.
ReplyDeleteOur reactions seem to be similar' it seems odd to me more than curious, yet it is a very good selection because it makes me think about motivation and intention of the artist.
ReplyDeleteFirst glance said YUCK, where is that happening???? But then I realised it's an art installation, really impressive. Can't say I actually LIKE it, but it really resonates! I'll have to find out more about Andy Rosen and what goes on in his brain.
ReplyDeleteOr weirdsville!!!

I like it! Very clever.
ReplyDeleteVery realistic and very curious at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Definitely creepy! Your son is probably at the Hyatt one exit east of me on I-10 which is not far. Coincidentally, I will be headed to Austin next month to visit my sister. She and her family moved there in July after living in Baltimore for over 30 years. So far they love it and are looking forward to no snow this winter!
ReplyDeleteBefore reading I was scared, they look angry, the installation is so realistic!
ReplyDeleteGreat entry for the theme a,
Happy September!
Me again. You will love Austin. I was there last fall visiting my nephew and his family who moved there because he got a promotion at eBay. That's why my sister moved, to be near her grandkids. She actually bought a house one street over from them in the northern suburb of Leander. If you get a chance and you like BBQ, try Rudy's...best brisket ever!
ReplyDeleteAn impressive work, perfectly placed. Bravo to Andy Rosen!
ReplyDeletelooks very creepy to me too
ReplyDeleteReally good stuff.
ReplyDeleteBy George, I think you're right. Creepy, crawly, curious!
ReplyDeleteThey look so feral - I agree, very creepy!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely creepy. I thought they were foxes. That's sort of how the foxes around here look - skinny and mean!
ReplyDeleteFirst glance, are they really dogs? Very curious... Grrrrrr
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that looks weird!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I wouldn't want to meet these guys in a dark alley!
ReplyDeleteOr even in a lighted one!
ReplyDeleteThey look totally real and I might scream in fright seeing them by surprise! Hope that you get a snow photo, Mr. Bird.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can think of that's creepier about this thing is what it must have been like in the artist's studio where they were constructed.
ReplyDeleteI would be curious to see what they all are doing together. When we see dogs together many times they use to put fight between them...
ReplyDeleteI so did think they were real. Phew!
ReplyDeletethat's funky!
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific installation! I love it!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely sent a chill up my spine.
ReplyDeleteWhen I thought it was real, I was in awe, and then I thought exactly what you started your post with.
