PHS

First, just a bit of history. Portland High School was founded in 1821, and is the second oldest operating high school in the United States.. With over a 1,000 students from 41 countries and speaking 26 languages, this school is pretty unique as far as diversity goes. Here's a different look seen from the backside near Freshman alley.

  1. Unique indeed. I passed the front of the building so many times, but I don't think I ever saw this entrance. Good capture.
As for yesterday, I was atoning.

  2. Why do they call it "freshman alley"?

  3. I think it's the Frosh Entrance to the school.

  4. That's very interesting. Why so much diversity in a local high school, or does it go out of its way to attract internationally? It must! That's fascinating. BTW, I'll be enjoying your blog. Most of my time in Portland years ago (one day, actually one evening) was spent after dark trying to find my way out of a poorly-marked industrial area while running low on gas. It was a little scary.
