Here's the head of Carlton Street and Congress in late morning sun. It's a one way, hence the two stop signs. Behind the camera in this shot, the area is just loaded with stunningly unique, large, brick family homes. Dad, who delivered mail in the Western Prom, always said, "Have you seen those brick buildings on Carlton? They're are beautiful; relics of a past time". Some of the streets up here are maze-like.
Maze-like is good. My favourite. I live in a suburb of Sydney called Paddington and it is maze-like. There are lanes and alley ways everywhere. Many unnamed. I love them.
ReplyDeleteThis is a 'neighborhood' in every sense of the word. Something lacking today.
ReplyDeleteWonderful slice-of-city shot, Birdman.
ReplyDeleteI live in an older part of Tulsa and like it because it seems to me to be a "real" part of town. To the south and east in the newer suburbs the neighborhoods are on a nice grid with predictable shops and franchise restaurants in tidy strip malls located at each major intersection. They are all stamped out with a cookie cutter.
ReplyDeleteI am quite used to maze-like quarters here, so I like this and would like to walk those streets.
ReplyDeleteDid a lot of walking around the West Prom and Clueless and I lived on West Street for a couple years . . . liked those brick Victorians. Our favorite pizza place was Mama Leone's. Thanks for the memories.
