Growing Bottles

Sitting on the back window sills, these two bottles hold remnants of warm summer days. On the back porch, there is a line of old bottles found through the years, while digging around our 'back forty'. June through September, they hold tiny flowers from Elenka's gardens. As October arrives, most die off or turn to mush. But as you can see, these two impatiens have taken hold and are vigorously sending forth roots. They are with her at work these days and will soon find a home in the good earth.

  1. Oh, Birdman, you make everything sound so romantic! You really do.
Yes, they are with me at work these days, and I have all good intentions to put them into soil soon, IF I remember to go and buy some dirt. And that's a very big IF.

(we BUY dirt....we BUY water....what's wrong with us?)

I wonder how long they could just keep rooting around before they decide it isn't worth it?

  3. I really like how this photo turned out. It is like finding an old bottle of medicine that has taken root. Nice work.

  5. For some reason this reminded me of findings from the bottle of the ocean that from time to time you hear about... Nice image!
    God bless you!

  8. This is exquisite, Birdman. You've taken the bottle photo and elevated it. (I do like bottle photos, but this adds something.)

  10. That is so cool. Those old bottles might be worth something to an antique dealer. Back in the 70s we lived in West Chester, PA, and our son found many old bottles and other artifacts digging in mounds in that area - especially along creek beds. Some of those were valuable.

    Beautiful photos!

  13. I love this image. I had a window sill full of dear little bottles full of plantings, that somehow got lost during our move. That was two years ago and still remains a mystery!
