Mustard Dingy

Heard the latest? Hurricane Irene is paying us a visit. If you own a sailboat or other major piece of watercraft on the ocean, yesterday and today was and will be filled with worry and arrangements for getting your craft out of the water. This is no concern of mine. However, securing deck furniture, taking down the umbrella, filling my gas cans, pulling out the generator, filling a couple of buckets of fresh water, making sure I have sufficient batteries for the portable radio, and checking on the running of the sump pump are just a few of the jobs that the local news says I should be getting done. Right now, we're not in panic mode. But certainly by tomorrow morning we should have a much better idea what 'spaghetti noodle' track the ol' gal will be taking up through New England. The hatches will be battened down soon, but tonight it's off to a concert. My thoughts will be a million miles away.

  1. It's hard (for me) to imagine a hurricane up in Maine. Please take care.
Hoping for the best for you and all East Coasters.

  2. A soothing shot....showing the calm before the storm. A sure fire way to avoid a hurricane is to be prepared for it. : ) Hopefully, it'll just be a rain event for you.

  4. Enjoy the concert and stay calm as you ride the storm. We've been told to tidy up our yards so as to deprive this beast of little toys to throw around as it blows through.

  6. My friends for whom I am house-sitting in Santa Fe just flew off to the East Coast so I hope that the Hurricane passes them by. Would be a shame to have it ruin their vacation.

  9. We have had our experiences with hurricanes and each one is different. I hope that Irene will leave you alone with just a bit of rain.

Love this shot as it almost appears that the mustard boat has a little tiny sail!

  13. Have fun at the concert, Birdman. The work begins tomorrow.

All the charts show Irene aiming directly at Hartford. We are enough inland that floods are not a big issue here (though nasty at the shore), but with our huge old trees, downed power lines are inevitable. Noon on Sunday will be a nailbiter.
