Iced Windows

Yesterday morning, when I checked the temperature, it read -11F. Cold? I'll say, but it wasn't freezing inside. Although peeking out my office window at 6:30 AM, you'd probably think it was. I was up early loading the birdfeeders and was off for a spin to enjoy a morning coffee in the city. In my other life, our Stevens Avenue house had pretty big bedrooms, and on winter mornings, they were quite cold. Right up till high school, the night before I put my clothes on a chair next to my bed, and believe it or not I dressed in bed, from head to foot. By the time I got down to the kitchen for that hot oatmeal breakfast, it was toasty warm thanks to Dad and a glowing wood stove. Yesterday morning, if I closed my eyes tight, I could have been back upstairs at 820 Stevens real easily.

  4. So beautiful, your frosty window, and your memory of those frosty mornings and the clothes nearby is nearly identical to one my husband shares.

  5. The window is beautiful. Not sure what -11F translates to in C, but we were around -12C this weekend. That's plenty cold!

  7. Hi There, Your weather brought back memories of my childhood also. We had a coal burning furnace in our basement. Daddy would have to go down there and stoke the fire to get it going in the mornings. I was two floors above him in my bed ---but never got out until I heard him stoking that fire... Then the warm eat would pour in through our registers... Such great memories on a cold morning.

  8. Can't comment coming from IE, have to switch to Firefox, are you sure you don't want to change the settings to a pop up window?

Having said that again, I do so wish this was a sight I could enjoy right now... Gimme some books and a teapot. Oh and I might not even read, just try to look outside...

  9. Oh that's awful. It was in the low 30s when I headed to the golf course this morning. I hate that kind of weather. By the time I got home I was in shirt sleeves, though.

Y'all need come visit your relatives in Florida during this time of year!

  10. The frost on the window is beautiful. Too bad that means being cold! But certainly the memory it evoked brought it's own warmth.

  12. I'm glad it's not quite that cold in Boston, but 10 above or 10 below doesn't feel a whole helluva lot different. Cold is cold.

  13. It was cold in Florida yesterday, too. 65 degrees. I remember those wintry, bone-chilling days in the Boston burbs when I was a kid.

  15. Yup - that looks frosty! But -11F sounds warm to me. It's -51F here in Saskatchewan this morning. Now that's nippy!! :) Excellent photo!
