Plastic Wrap

It's a long winter here in Maine. I do believe it's a longer one for owners of boats, especially sailboats. I took a walk behind the Portland Company the other frosty morning, and although I was only out for a short time I got some interesting shots of boats under wraps for the winter. What do they say about owning a boat? "The two best days in a boat owner's life: the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it." Not ever being a boat owner myself, I can't be sure if there is real truth or fallacy held within this line, but it does bring a smile to my face. By the way, the only boats you'll see on nearby Sebago Lake this morning are ice sailboats flying across the frozen blue. You won't find me there though... maybe taking in a movie today but not walking a frozen lake.

  1. I should imagine owning a boat is a bit like having a pool Birdman, although we used the pool non stop when David and Aimee were young, now it only seems to get used when we have a barbie or something..it's 36C here today and it's just so much more comfortable sitting in the air conditioning!!

  2. I don't think the Kennedy family would endorse your quote! I've watched ice boats in Madison, WI and they are really swift as they glide and race across the lakes.

  3. I have always heard that a boat is a hole in the water into which you pour money!

Boats can be a lot of fun but they do take a lot of time, money and energy...maybe you ought to get one just for the experience?

  4. I think the best thing is to have a friend who owns a boat. :)
I really like this shot. Simple and shiny!

  5. Cool photo - an ice boat sounds cool, but I'd probably be chicken. . .

  9. I have a friend who tells his two kids that they will be written out of his will if they ever buy a boat. I understand that attitude completely.

  10. Everyone thinks a boat would be fun until you talk to someone who has one. They always love them but complain about the cost.

  11. Ice sailboats--no kidding!

I still dream of learning to build a boat at your Carpenter's Boatshop.

  12. What in the world are ice sailboats? Sounds fun and exciting...although a cozy movie inside sounds more like my thing, too.
