Strength

This stack of steel rebar was piled along side a favorite Fore Street breakfast spot recently. It is used as a tensioning device in many concrete and masonry projects to lend strength to the structure. There are times in my life where a good piece of reinforcing steel might come in very handy, to help with durability and strength, as I pursue an ongoing problem. Not realistic perhaps, but metaphorically speaking, it might be just what the doctor ordered. Strength is a quality that allows us to persevere when times get challenging. Let a little rebar in your life!

  1. Your photo also suggests to me structure. A little structure helps me to have strength for difficult tasks. (the steel suggests to me graph paper which is my tool for tackling difficult paperwork...) Thanks for this post, love your recent metaphors.

  2. I like the idea that came from this image, a game to play with our imagination!

  3. My personal rebar is my wife. She keeps me on the straight path of life, but your photo does not look much like her at all.

  5. Some years back there was a best-seller by name of "Hurricane," about a condo in Florida that was built without rebar! Naturally, when the hurricane hit with the party-goers have a great old time, it all came crashing down...Not only no rebar but way too much sand mixed in the concrete.

I think that was made into a movie, also.

  7. Hear, hear! This brings to mind a purse I recently purchased that has a cut-proof strap and its sides have steel mesh so they can't be sliced either. Mind you, I've never had a problem with purse snatching, but... And I have a similar camera strap.

  8. When I think of rebar I think of how I use it to put holes in the ground when really hard earth must be penetrated. I try to keep 18" to maybe 24" lengths around just for that. Great for sheperds hooks that hold hanging plants and bird feeders.

  9. Yes, strength is crucial in life. Also the statement: this too shall pass.

  11. Aw, c'mon. Rebar isn't nearly expensive enough for a doctor to order. But you're right, we could all use a little extra stiffness of the spine.
