Some Snow

Yes, we've had our first snowfall. Well, sort of-- the night before last we had a wintery mix as the meteorologists call it. It was a bit of snow, a bit of sleet, a bit of freezing rain. As an old timer would say in these parts in that Downeast drawl, "weren't much." That first significant snow drop has always been a special day. Forget December 21. For me, the first day the snow flies is always that first day of winter. I remember sliding all the way to school, in grammar to high school, in that new fallen whiteness. These days, it's still special looking out my back window at work across the wide expanse of fields to the spruces in the distance and viewing the snowfall. Now, driving in it is a whole different ballgame some days.

  1. Look at those beautiful stones and their snowy 'grout'! We got a few inches of the white fluff last night and now it's blowing all around, daring us to brave the wind and slick roads.

  2. We received a very light dusting early Friday morning. Strange since it was in the 70's on Thanksgiving day.

  3. The first snowfall that sticks is always nice. I can do without driving on wintery roads. I've had one too many adventures in whiteouts and on black ice!

  4. Nice stones. It's cold here, but snow is rare, maybe later in winter...

  5. Very pretty in the flagstones.
We had our first snow on Nov. 22nd. Very early for here. It is gone now and rain has taken it's place.

  6. I'm not sure I could drive in it any longer. It's been way too long since I've had that experience. The first snow fall sure looks pretty though.

  7. Every once in a blue moon we will get about that much snow here.

  8. I actually get jazzed every time the snow falls (as long as I don't have to drive in it). It's so easy to enjoy the snow if you work at home and can tromp off on foot to your appointments. This image makes me think of the spots on a giraffe, Birdman.

  9. I really makes the stone stand out in this photo. Our dusting came and went in the blink of an eye.

  10. The snow does look rather like grout! Interesting pattern. But you can keep the snow...been there, done that. Now I like sun and warmth. But it's cold here today - only 68! Back to 75 tomorrow, though. That's better. :-)

  12. This is a neat image, at first I thought it was an areial view of farmland until my eyes adjusted and saw the stones. Makes for an abstract photo :)
