Endless Days

Have you heard the term used 'endless summer'? Have you located it in your summer journeys? Where might I find it? I need it bad. Since I was a kid and had to return to school soon after Labor Day, I've been searching for this particular summer. There were always those problematic incentives. You know, heading back to meet your friends, 'back to school' shopping trips, "this year I'm really going to try to master math" and as 7th grade approached 'new relationships'. But after all, what it really meant was that another carefree summer had bit the dust, and it was time for SCHOOL! Another factor, that always was in the equation around these parts was that summer is so short in Maine. On the deck yesterday afternoon, returning from a sojourn to the ocean, Elenka dreamed a bit, while sipping her martini. "Why can't it be like this all year long? Why not in the high 70s every day, in every way." I guess that would be definitely the summer that went on forever. Hey, I'm not stingy. I don't need endless. Heck, just give me two more weeks of heat; I can take it!

  2. I know, I know. But there are places in the US where it IS like endless summer. Not sure it would be so easy to appreciate those gemlike days tho.

  3. Sharon is right. Come on out to Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona to see what is as close to endless summer as you'll find. And we are all so sick and tired of it. Day after day of over 100, no rain, trees dying. And another month to go!

  5. Central Florida is really where you want to be...it's 73 degrees now and sunny. Will be hot most days until the end of September...but then you've got 5-6 months of gorgeous weather.

We've had lots of rain, too, so everything is lush and green.

    Yum.

  7. Well, being retired is like an endless vacation, sort of. At least we hope it stretches out for a long, long time until--backpacks left behind and teeth chattering--we take the next step.

Aww, look what you've done. I'm all serious and mortal now.

  8. Birdman, I think you are a man of nostalgia! Your reminisces bring back many of our old memories. I was quite astonished to learn that the students here in Santa Fe are back in school already...talk about short summers!

  10. Our official summer is Dec, Jan and Feb, but we get some of the hottest weather in March and believe me by then it definitely feels like an 'endless summer'!!

  11. Birdman -- sounds like you'll have to become a biker, put a sidecar on for your wife and pile some big backpacks on the back. I think this is the only way to have perfect weather -- by chasing it on your Harley. -- barbara

  13. Endless summer is exactly what we get too much of. By the time mid-August is here, most Arizonans are fed up with the extreme heat and absolutely ready for some upper 70's weather. Yesterday, I had to attend a meeting in downtown Phoenix at mid-afternoon. There was a 4 block walk to the meeting place and the outside temperature was 115 degrees. It took me a good 45 minutes to cool off after that walk. I can't wait for some 75 degree weather, heck I'd take 90!

  16. I would take an endless San Diego summer or a Whidby Island September stretched out for months and months. I cannot complain. Once we get through September, we are free and clear until next late June.

  25. If you consider high 70's summer and heat.... I would consider that September, hopefully. I think Endless Summer is what people would hope for but never attain.

  26. I think Elenka is describing San Diego or even the Palos Verde peninsula.

This summer has been pretty good, hasn't it?

  27. Our summers are HOT down here. I'd love to have the temps in the 70's during the day... We'll have to wait til Fall or Spring for those temps... I for one don't care for summer... Will be thrilled to see Fall get here.
