Corned Beef

Happy St. Paddy's Day!
Last night Elenka prepared our traditional St. Patrick's Day repast of corned beef and cabbage. It was delicious! Now, looking at my photo today in full disclosure, I prepared my earthenware myself. I'm really not into food placement on my dish. I just wanted the corned beef, cabbage, turnip, carrots and potatoes on my plate so I could 'get busy'. You'd think that the times I've gotten 'lost' on the food network watching the likes of:  Paula Dean? (No!), the Barefoot Contessa? (No!), Rachael Ray(No! No! No!!), Giada De Laurentiis? (well, now you're talkin'). I can watch her for hours, and I have before. "Oh, you say she cooks too?" You'd think I'd know a little more about the importance of food placement on a plate, with the amount of time I've spent in fine restaurants and the 'time' I've spent watching these cooks. But alas, last evening it was all about enjoying this delicious meal.
I guess I better take a food course on the 'plate presentation' of my dinners.
I admit it. I've got some work to do.

  5. HA ! You guys are lucky to see this plate as well done as it is!!

Normally, things are piled up on top of each other.

I do not like to cook, but I love trying new culinary creations.

Sometimes the seasonings are 'just so' to create that specific gourmet taste. Piling haricot verts with almonds on top of sea scallops with spiced bacon and then suffocating it by a handful of peas is not my idea enjoying the fruits of my labors.

    But....whatever.

  6. Looks good to me just the way you have it there. I'm sure you did more damage to that look with your fork. ;)

We have a leprechaun in our kitchen right now making cabbage rolls. ;)

  8. Oh I don't know Birdman, I think that is exactly how a plate of delicious corned beef and cabbage is supposed to look.

  9. perhaps you should leave the plating to elenka and her brilliant artistic eye.

  11. You would have needed lightning fast shudder speed to get a pic of my plate! You would have better luck getting one of me on the couch now.

  13. I feel strongly both ways. The rational part of my brain says, hey, it's just fuel, put it down any old way and let's start eating. The artistic side enjoys a fine presentation. Living with two warring sides of my brain is a bitch.

  14. Where you put food on a plate seems to be of utterly no consequence. Food on a plate in any arrangement is a work of art - it's all in the eye of the beholder. Let your left brain go and go with your right brain - no more worries. And that's the truth! :)
