Elenka often asks me to set the table. That request can send me into panic mode. Help! Fork, knife, spoon...???
Let me get this straight from the left: salad fork, dinner fork, plate, on right, dinner knife blade in towards plate, spoons to the right tea spoon or dessert spoon, outside would be the soup spoon, if you are so inclined.
So complicated! I say, "Keep it simple." Right handed? Place the fork to the right and "Let's get started." I like the uncomplicated. Went to dinner last night. Dined outside. Very nice. Silverware came to us in a rolled up in a white napkin.
PERFECTION!
There!
The way life should be!
Simple!

Always remember; Left to right placement- Bread, Meal, Water.
Keep life simple.
*btw in photograph today is my homemade tomato soup.
See spoon to left, already breaking etiquette rules.
I love it!
I just knew you were the rule breaking type! Your tomato soup looks fabulous. I wish I could get a taste but they haven't built computers that can do that yet.
ReplyDeleteWho coached you on this post?
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't really matter to me which side the fork is on, it's just that when 'you' set the table for me it shouldn't look like a magnitude 6.0 earthquake just occurred.
ReplyDeleteGood thing I love ya!!!
I always set the table in the order of how I want to clean them afterward. A soup sppon is all that's needed. :-)
ReplyDeletei'm with you on simple!
ReplyDeleteHmm, I was taught the forks are arranged in the order you'll use them, with the first closest to the plate. Same with spoons, I believe. But I get around this by setting things up buffet style; everyone grabs their own utensils and can line them up however they please. (Nice looking soup.)
ReplyDeleteA magnitude six quake, Elenka?
ReplyDeleteI tend to set for myself whichever utensil I'll make the most use of at the left, since I'm lefthanded. I know, I'm a heathen.
I'm more interested in the quality of the food than the placement of silverware. Silverware placement is all about tradition which has largely lost its original meaning. Most of us go to few formal dinners these days anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat soup looks great!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite soup and sandwich combination! I had to remind our sons of table setting rules last night. They would opt for rolling it all in the napkin.
ReplyDeleteTomato soup and grilled cheese? That would be my favorite cold weather comfort food.
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to know the rules so you can break the rules . . .
ReplyDeleteTasty looking meal.
ReplyDeleteI don't care where the flatware is laid. This looks yummy and I'm ready to dive in.
ReplyDeleteLiving on the wild side hey Birdman :)
ReplyDeleteUncomplicated suits me just fine!
ReplyDeleteI remember having to face many spoons, forks ,etc.. I was so afraid to do things wrong that I did not enjoy the fabulous food!
ReplyDeleteOnce more time, I agree completely with your rules!
ReplyDeleteI set the table, too. Not very creative about it. Your plates are similar in design to my CT plates, though yours are pottery and mine are china.
ReplyDeleteLove the deep color of the soup which suggests deep flavor. Tomato season is WONDERFUL!! The sandwich looks pretty good too.
