Veins

Yesterday afternoon, I was waiting for Elenka to return from the city. Usually in the afternoon, I have some music tuned to either a classical station(WBACH) or to WMPG the local college and their eclectic mix of Hendrix, Left Banke, Tim Buckley to hip hop. I often play it loud, till I hear her car in the driveway, but yesterday I settled for just listening to my grandparents' timepiece ticking away in the kitchen. I sat by the woodstove in silence with nothing but the clock's refrain. I was surprised how I enjoyed it. It was music!

  1. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. I heard the clock but of the rest, nary a peep. So I laid down my head and went to sleep!

  3. how wonderful that you are able to hear the ticking of the clock in the quiet kitchen without any other distractions.

  4. I might have to find a ticking clock. I remember how much I liked that sound and I don't hear it now.

  5. It is not so easy to remain so still and silent. It is nice to imagine birdman sitting there listening to the tick-tock clock of his grandparents. . . There is a story (or many stories) there.
