A Lure

Cruise ship passengers' first steps in the city are here at the Ocean Gateway terminal. The architecture of the building is designed to resemble the prow of a ship and give visitors a few hints of Portland's vast seafaring history. There is an allure to it also. Allure is an interesting word. Defined as "the quality of being powerfully and mysteriously attractive or fascinating." You might be wondering, why did he go from the design of a pier to a word like allure? The answer lies within the next sentence. We are booked this summer for an exciting cruise aboard the Allure of the Seas, as of right now the largest of the Royal Caribbean ships.
Ah... very warm sun, cigars, sunsets, martinis, night life, scrumptious food, women!
Ok, scratch that last one.

  1. What an adventure that will be! I like the play on words. Will your lovely artist wife be with you?

  2. I don't think so Birdman, way too much deep water under that floating 'apartment block'..but very much looking forward to hearing your tales from aboard ship..ahoy!

  3. I didn't know that cigars were part of a cruise! I have the feeling that a note from Elenka is on they way...

  4. Good for you. I can't wait to hear about your trip and maybe see a few photos. I'm not into cruising myself. Not for the same reason as Grace. I like to explore and once you've seen the ship, you've seen the ship.

  5. I've never done a cruise but the idea of those European river cruises sounds good to me - lots to see and like Grace, not a lot of deep water to worry about.

  6. Library Jewel: Yes
    Sketchbook: Yes

    Lord help me.

Of course, there might be some strapping young men wandering the decks. It's amazing how much you can see behind one's Ray Bans. AND I have a very good imagination.

  8. It's an alluring photo, too. Just be careful that you don't fall overboard or go overboard at the food tables or the tables in the casino. And be sure to wear a new alligator belt and new alligator shoes with plaid shorts and a pink polo shirt. Take lots of photos!

  11. No women on that cruise? I know, that's not what you meant. Have a good time. I hope that engine room doesn't have any problems.
