Dunes

"Please don't disturb the dunes."
I spent the morning and early afternoon at Ferry Beach yesterday. From what I can see, repairing the dunes along southern Maine beaches is a constant struggle. Signs everywhere remind us that they are extremely delicate and to please stay off and let the grasses return. When I hit the beach, the last place I want to 'play' is on the dunes. I've got my hands full with deciding on what  sunscreen number to apply, the lugging of awkward beach chairs, umbrellas and other bags of assorted gotta have junk, bringing lunch with its proper beverages and keeping track of all those scantily clad sights.
Whew! I'm exhausted just planning a trip to the beach.
Climbing the dunes? I'll leave that to others.

  1. All that sounds like a struggle enough without climbing the dunes too! :)

  2. You have my sympathy...how terrible it must be to have to spend part of a day near a body of water with the sun shining, wind blowing gently , and sand beneath your feet. Such trials!!

The delicate dunes deserve your respect...aren't they beautiful?!

  3. I haven't been to a beach in years. It may be time. Nice shot.

  7. I could tell about how I took the road less traveled across some sand dunes in south Texas years ago with my kids telling me "Dad, I don't think you're supposed to drive here!"

Hah, what did they know. Well, after several hours wait, a tow out of the dunes, and a $200 bill (just missing another large fine!), we were back on the road. Darn kids were right. And they were little!

In my defense, it did look like a road to drive on.

Anyway, I could tell you about that but I'm not going to 'cause I know you'll just laugh. Like my kids!

  9. The last time I was at a beach in Maine, it was so foggy that I felt like we were sitting in a cloud. Crazy.
