Ankle-Deep

I was ankle-deep in yellow leaves the other day when I took this photograph in the Old Port. I seem to always find interesting sights 'behind the scenes'. These barrels are lined up at the rear of a local restaurant and are just inundated with fallen leaves. Autumn's final goodbye. This sight will be gone forever later today. Starting around noon and running into tonight, we are expecting 9-12 inches of snow. I don't know if they plan to move these soon. If not, this might make for an interesting image come February. Maybe just the tops will be peeking out then. I might return. Of course, by then I'll be more than ankle-deep in the results of winter's fury. Until then, if you're in the upper Northeast today, bundle up and bear it.
We're a hardy bunch up here.
Bring it on!

  1. I'm assuming those old barrels are empty. I wonder if they sell 'em. They make for cool additions to a patio or playroom.

9-12 inches of new snow? You are hardy. Or nuts. Or both.

It's raining here. And cold. Like in the 50s! Ugh!

  2. I don't think I've ever seen that many wooden barrels in once place. Looks like a scene out of America's distant past.

  3. You certainly are a hardy bunch! This is the time of year in Phoenix where I leave home around 6:30 AM in a coat and scarf and go home in the afternoon around 3:00 in shirt sleeves. We run the car heat in the AM and the air conditioning in the PM. It was 46 this morning and will be 76 this afternoon. According to the news it's supposed to get into the high 80's this weekend. Bring it on!

  4. Oh what a wonderful and unusual picture!
Funny, just lately I was lamenting the fact that I've not seen a wooden barrel for ages.

  7. Good luck with any T-day travel plans. We bailed off the Interstate about half way to tomorrow's turkey dinner. Oh, well it's an adventure. Perhaps we'll be able to drive the rest of the way tomorrow. Love the barrel photo. Looks like they've been there a long time.

  10. Love the yellow leaves and the wooden barrels. . . all now covered with snow, most likely. It's all white outside now (up here) and purty.

  13. One neighbor has a planter form an old barrel, cut lengthwise and it is pretty as a picture during the summer with colorful flowers.
