Bottled Orange
My drink of choice growing up was orange, Orange Crush. I bought bottles and bottles of the stuff for a quarter at the Amoco Gas Station, where I picked up my bundle of the Portland Evening Express each afternoon. I got bottles from the cooler at Howards' Variety and sat at the counter drinking them down, many summer mornings before 8 AM. When it came to ice cream on our Saturday night trips to Strafford Farms, it was always a large, orange sherbet cone, please. Where this strange affinity for the flavor orange emanated from I do not know. Now that I think about it, in high school I even had a pair of orange levi's. Different then... different now!

How about orange Cremsicles? Always a summer treat.
ReplyDeleteOh, for sure ODP. Thanks for the memory jog. They were a special treat.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like a bit of a 'crush' Birdman,in fact I think I might have one on your wordage haha!!
ReplyDeleteI love the composition in your picture! :D Orange Crush was one of my favorites, too.
ReplyDeleteThis photo is fantastic. It's so hot here I wouldn't mind an orange sherbet!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memory jolt--orange sherbet--was that the push-up kind? I ate about a million of those and orange creamsicles.
ReplyDeleteThe orange pants sound very stylish. Orange is popular in South Carolina only because it is Clemson's school color. My daughter's boyfriend went to school there, and he sports orange every time I see him :^)
ReplyDeleteI am more of a Strawberry crush fan. My dad got me hooked on it. He would also poor a bag of salty peanuts in his and then drink it. One of my favorite memories.
ReplyDeleteAnother jolt-- Randy, I do remember pouring peanuts in Pepsi. It was just weird.
ReplyDeleteOooh, orange creamsicles... now THAT takes me back! Besides fresh squeezed orange juice, I don't much share your passion for the taste of orange, but I sure get it. I like your narrative and the composition of your colorful photo, but I have a growing concern about the amount of plastic we use and discard too fast...
ReplyDeleteI liked orange crush over vanilla ice cream, yum! However, when it came to my soft drink of choice it was always Coca-Cola. I remember we had both a Pepsi and a coke bottling plant in my home town. The coke plant had a glass front so you could watch the bottles being filled and capped.
ReplyDeleteCrwamsicles were my favourite but they sure don't taste the same now - too chemically. Can't get the image of orange levis out of head!
ReplyDeleteI loved the brown Orange Crush bottles with the ridges. They seemed exotic beside the other soft drink bottles. Liked the drink, too.
ReplyDeleteNot bad for a hot summer and healthy too.
ReplyDeleteCruise Pictures
Orange crush was my favorite, too, Birdman, and orange sherbet was tied with lemon. Do they even make orange crush any more? Wikipedia knows, but I am too lazy to check tonight.
ReplyDeleteNothing like soda in an ice cold bottle. I love Orange Crush as a kid.
ReplyDeleteOrange seems to be many kids favorite then we grow up and feel the need to change to something more adult like Coke or Pepsi. It's one of those mysteries.
