Big Wheel
I've been away for a few days. Did you notice? I accompanied a group of my friends for a fast trip to NYC and the Philadelphia area. Mid-week I found myself in Allentown, PA at Six Flags Great Adventure. I took a stroll among some of their rides. Here's a look up at the ferris wheel. Wheels have quite a history. There are records of them 'riding to the sky' as early as the early 1600s in Constantinople. This I did not know. For me, it was always a daring ride that upped the ante from the safe, harmless merry-go-round. When I reached the tippy top, I knew I could see forever. Well, maybe not quite that far but at least the outer reaches of Old Orchard Beach.

We call them Pariserhjul in Sweden. Been a while since I took a ride in one of these.

ReplyDeleteThey seem to be quite popular these days but they are not cheap - I wouldn't so much mind the expense if it wasn't for the long queues waiting to get on.

ReplyDeleteFerris wheels are terrific objects, and your photo of this one is great as it give a sense of height with wonderful graphic lines.
ReplyDeleteAnd a fine perspective on that wheel Bird. I screwed my courage and rode the Grand Roue in Paris last year. After I caught my breath, I was beside myself!!!

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, ferris wheels are scary enough these days, can only imagine what one would have looked like back in the 1600"s ..I don't think so!!
