Chain Lock

... more "My Three Hours"
I hear there are people who put locks all over on fences, poles and other odd places. This chain, when fully extended, would connect to nowhere. What's this all about? I found this lock and chain on a pathway high above the beach. It was nailed to a pole. Why do people do this? Any idea? Makes for an interesting picture, but that's about it. What's it all about? Can you help me get a good night's rest? Try and answer these three simple questions. Why? Why? Why?

  1. You're right, this makes for a strong image. We each can insert our own metaphor. Hadn't heard of this being a fad. The only fad with locks I've seen is "love locks" on bridges, where the lovers also toss the key into the water as a symbol of undying love.

  4. I have to admit I do this. Not sure that it means anything, except that I have some old chain and padlocks. I also like collecting small rusty metal objects and fixing them to walls and fences. Possibly something to do with art. Could have deeper meaning I suppose.

  5. What Oakland said.....

If you remember, I told you all about this before. Even showed you pics. Sheesh.

Two people in love put their names on a lock, lock it onto something and then throw the key away.

  6. I don't know about chains, but google Pont des Arts bridge in Paris to see the practice that Oakland Daily Photo describes.

  9. When I was in Verona, there was an entire wall of locks in the little garden where you view Juliettes balcony. It made me wonder too. Why there? Romeo and Julliette were fictional characters and their youthful love did not end well. Who knows?

  11. Fine patina on both wood and chain. They show a bit of age and interesting color and texture. Why? Why not?
