Fish.
Pea.
Corn.
I like soup!
I like chowder!
I grew up with the stuff.
On Christmas Eve before we headed out to services, Elenka prepared her delicious fish chowder. It was just the thing for our very cold, evening jaunt. After our spiral-cut ham for Christmas dinner, the bone provided the main ingredient for a delicious pea soup later in the weekend. This past Saturday, when the temps broke at -17° F at 7 AM, I notified Elenka that we were going out for breakfast and then off to get components for a hearty, corn chowder.
It was a perfect plan. Hot corn chowder and the Wild Card Playoff games.
As a matter of fact, I know when I saw this pea green building in the storm last week, it must have triggered my subconscious and got me thinking: pea soup, pea soup, pea soup...
If you are preparing a soup or a chowder, I'll be in your corner.
Any good recipes?
i made some soup bean with our leftover ham. i'm impressed that you go out in that weather. we are supposed to get -20 windchills tomorrow and i'm wondering if we will all be stuck at home because of it. really don't know what to expect!
ReplyDeleteI have a killer chicken salsa soup recipe that is SO easy! Interested?
ReplyDeleteSure. Please send it along sometime.
DeleteSend me your email and I'll forward the recipe. My email is on my profile.
Deletewow lots of snow there! And here only rain and this wet winter, I'm still waiting to see some snow in my place. I think hot chocolate is always a good idea when it's snowing! And for sure, a good book in hands!

Chowder sounds like a delicious idea! Thanks for the idea, Birdman.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is soup weather. I am ready for spring. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious! I could eat some right now. I might have to make my chili soup this week.
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact, I do. I'll give you the links (I substitute spinach for the escarole in the Tuscan soup). In the Lemon Chicken Soup, I use one less clove garlic and dried parsley (sometimes basil, sometimes not). Both are better made a day ahead!

To eat his own. I like minestrone and that's about it. In your case, I'd say go for anything that has a warming effect! :)
ReplyDeleteMy brother served a very good fish soup yesterday.
ReplyDeletei love split pea and ham soup! yum!
ReplyDeleteLove good chowder. I made Julia Child's recipe chicken fricassee this weekend. It's not quite a soup, but the sauce is heavenly over rice. Looks like you could borrow my snow blower. Perfect weather to stay home, make soup, and bake bread.
ReplyDeleteWe make soup once a week in this household, the hands-down favorite being smoked salmon wild rice. I can send the recipe via email if you and Elenka are interested.
ReplyDeleteI'M interested!!
DeleteIt's a perfect day for soup - I haven't made any in years - will have to change that!
ReplyDeleteLots of them but no snow or cold to go with them :-(
ReplyDeleteI admire Portlanders for just deciding to get up and go out for breakfast then it is -17 and there's a ton of snow. Downtown St. Louis was nearly empty today. It was -6 when I got up and we had 6 to 10 inches of snow on Sunday. Two-thirds of my staff didn't make it in. People in Maine are tougher.
ReplyDeleteI'm an eater, not a cook. Pea soup is a favorite. Along with French onion soup. And either clam chowder or fish chowder. But, sorry, not a fan of corn chowder.
ReplyDeleteLike Jack, I am just an eater. But not fish soup.
ReplyDeleteButternut squash soup topped with romesco sauce and homemade croutons - Yummy!
ReplyDeleteYou guys really really need to stay warm!

Love making soups, nothing too exotic, don't have recipes, just toss in some of this and that, favorites are chicken noodle and lentil (separate). Also love that you can find so many good recipes by googling. Slurp, slurp.
