Amid the cursed, brown, dying bamboo this birch tree takes its stand in the fog. Have you ever stood alone? Could you? I can't really say I have. I think it would be extremely difficult for me. I've taken lots of sides in my life but can't ever recall being on an island alone. I like company. I've always been a team player, and I think I've been pretty good at it. I like results too. When I do anything, I want results. Call me a pragmatist. I can live with that. I know the value of the numbers game. I've always been one who likes to play the numbers. I'm not talking gambling here. That's not a game I play, ever. I sure would love to win the lottery though. That Jaguar would look so wonderful parked in my driveway.
Being the only one with a winning Megabucks ticket?
I could do that.
But as they say, "Gotta be in it to WIN it."
Maybe I need to rethink this 'standing alone' deal.

Hard to be the last of your kind. :-)
ReplyDeleteI went to London alone last year but, I stayed in someone's home through AirBnB, I met Mo and spent a wonderful day with her and I talked to people everywhere I went. I never really felt alone.
ReplyDeletei don't mind being alone, dining alone, etc. but i don't know if i've ever stood up for something alone.
ReplyDeleteSo what's wrong with bamboo. Perhaps you've been bamboozled earlier in life? I rather like being alone so that's no problem. Jaguar? That's the best you can do? Where's the Maserati in your dream?
ReplyDeleteWe have two huge areas with bamboo that looks just like yours. I have stood up for something alone, but quickly gathered support. There's a lot of strength in that.
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to have back-up!
ReplyDeleteI've often been alone!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure that I have ever been out there on my own either. I am a team player and believe in collaboration so I don't think that I need to be out there because I can influence things enough to where I may not get everything or most of what I want but I can make a difference.
ReplyDeleteI rather like being alone and standing up, alone, for things I believe in. In my small town everyone seems to like being the same. I have my own ideas about things and am often the, "loner". I like it.
ReplyDeleteLovely scene.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind being alone (I tend to be a loner) but I believe in being a team player too as I think teams that work well together get solid results.
ReplyDeleteIt is worse to be lonesome than alone - they are not synonyms.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I stood alone in a meeting, I was a rookie supervisor, and it got me reassigned to third shift. I'm still proud of that moment and being a product of the sixties. Peace.
ReplyDeleteI remember years ago when I was serving jury duty, it had to be a unanimous vote, guess who didn't agree :)
ReplyDeleteI stood alone, but had the Headmaster's support, when identifying a mass group plagarism activity after students used Cliffs Notes. Other teacher folded under parental pressure. Parents went bananas, but many guilty students supported me. Imagine that kind of behavior on their part!!
