This is Thompson's Point caught in an early morning sunrise Sunday. The Point is a small hunk of land that sticks out into the Fore River. Its major claim, in my life, is that it was the sight of my last Little League game ever. I played in an All Star game situated on a field right along the water. My Little League 3 team lost. Over the last year or so there has been a lot of 'talk', big plans for the city to develop this valuable piece of real estate. I've heard hotel complex, convention site, outdoor summer concert facility, and even an updated basketball arena for our D-League team the Red Claws. So far the only building that has gone up has been this roofed-over framework, that I think might have been a site for a couple of concerts this past summer and maybe a beer fest.
So far, lots of rumors.
Little fruition.
Talk is cheap.
Development isn't.
Leave it alone. Can we please have a few spaces left where the developers and politicians don't get rich paving over paradise?
ReplyDeleteRe the parka: That's a very light weight jacket. It wouldn't do anyone any good in Maine!
Until I moved to my new place, I served on a neighborhood planning board where were approved or denied projects that were being sent to the city council. We were the citizen input group that was supposed to guide city council in making a decision. I'd like to think we had some influence but I also know that there were plenty of times when we didn't approve of a project and the city went ahead anyway. I also know that there were quite a few project that we approved and loved and the city council approved but that never happened. I always wondered what happened in between.
ReplyDeletesome things are nice to just 'leave be!' but i know how 'progress' eventually wins over.
ReplyDeleteThis kind of structures keep popping up here and there, and quite often they stay there...
ReplyDeleteThe structure in sight on that site used to be part of the train shed at Union Station, I think?
ReplyDeleteLooks like the building and the plans are "open ended." Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile , there's a beautiful light , here , in the early morning ..
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good spot for a farmers market!
ReplyDeleteNice shot! Not so nice plans. The open roofed framework looks like plenty enough for the site.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine lots of events in all kinds of weather! Gosh, the sun isn't up here that early. Then again it set later too...
ReplyDeletesets
ReplyDeleteI would say leave it alone. There's a stretch up here that is being talked over, and the suggestion's being made for a new hockey arena. The present one is like a quarter century old.
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer a structure in keeping with community activity and spirit rather than a real estate development.
ReplyDeleteThe light is so pretty in this shot. I like the idea of an outdoor concert facility. We have a new one here and so far it has been a success.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteDreams are sold seldom fulfilled
It does look like a movie set.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lowell's comment. Leave it alone.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the talk of a new football stadium here to try to stop the Rams from returning to Los Angeles. I'm guessing the chance of your or our ideas going forward are about the same.
ReplyDeleteYep, you have to talk things over and over and over. till somebody makes something happen
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty spot Birdman .. You just know the developers won't rest until they get their hands on it :(
ReplyDeleteI have absolutely no idea what the use of a frame structure like this might be.
