This ain't funny!
It's cold, baby!
Outside my country kitchen window at 5:30 AM, the temperature reads -20°F as I type these words. Add in a little breeze, and they are saying it feels like an almost tropical -34°F. The high today will reach a balmy 15°F. I'm not braggin', but that's a bit cold, even for us up here in our corner of the world. This autumn sedum that flowers and keeps the birdbath company all summer through, wants no part of this snow and frigid temps. Right here right now, any thoughts of spring and summer heat are hard to conjure up, and I have a pretty good memory. But we're a hearty bunch up here in New England. Luckily, this 'blast' will last just a day, then life will get back to a normal January day tomorrow, with my outside thermometer reading about 32° for the high.
Got to get up and face this day?
Warm the car.
Bundle up.
Grab that scarf.
Where's my mad bomber winter hat?
Oh, and no school in Portland today... the Cold and bus issues.
Mainers! Always complaining. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is very very cold. I'd stay indoors for as long as it takes!
ReplyDeleteNo school! Well there has to be a bright side for someone Birdman :)
ReplyDeleteBeen there done that and I don't want to do it again and that's why I'm so upset this morning when our cold front brought temps in the 30s with blustery winds! How the hell can I play golf in that?
ReplyDeleteThey said even some places in Florida would have temps under 32. There is snow on some mountain tops in Hawaii today. Weather is sure strange these days.
DeleteSounds like Minnesota. Shall we have a "who is toughest" contest? I think it would be a draw!!
ReplyDeleteThere are some strange weather patterns going on across the country right now. Yesterday we broke a record for our high of 80 degrees and the east is breaking records in the other direction. Crazy.
ReplyDeletewe were at 18F this morning in texas. that's plenty cold enough for us, too. at least no snow or ice with it this time.
ReplyDelete20 below! Heaven! for about 15 minutes...
ReplyDeleteVery, very glad of our 12°C!
ReplyDeleteThe same temps here but I haven't pulled out my hat with ear flaps yet - have pulled out the longjohns though! ;-)
ReplyDeleteSchool cancelled here at noon today for low wind chills (-40 to -45 degrees) and low visibility from blowing snow. Buses still navigating country roads. Hope they have their GPS turned on. Keep warm.
ReplyDeleteThat's my kind of weather!
ReplyDeleteI am dressing in layers though.
How I wish it could be that cold here...
ReplyDeleteOuch! That's just too danged cold!
ReplyDeleteBundle up, Birdman!
You have my earnest respect! I remember those Northern NH winter winds! So lovely though. Thanks for getting some sun over at my place :-)

I love the picture, but I'm glad that I don't have to go outside and face something like that. It got pretty cold here (for us) today, but should warm up by the weekend!
ReplyDeleteI spent time growing up in North Dakota and don't ever remember feeling truly cold. However, in my older age I cannot tolerate even our temps of zero degrees today. How do you stand it? I find it very unmotivating.....
ReplyDeleteWe've discovered that if you get all layered and bundled up, with a scarf over your mouth, these temps are not so bad . . . as long as the wind doesn't blow. It's the wind that gets ya, mm?
ReplyDeleteYou are retired right? Why are you not on the beach in Florida?
ReplyDeleteIt's cold in Virginia too but I think zero has been our coldest temperature so far.
ReplyDeleteI won't tell you the temperature down here today. "Come on down!"
ReplyDeleteWe west coast wusses are now enjoying an uptick in temperatures into the 60s. Doesn't seem fair, does it?
ReplyDeleteLooking at your pictures I try and see them from a different perspective. Though this could be a bush layered with snow, I also see it as trees, as if you were looking down from a plane, or helicopter. The temperatures yesterday were so cold I think I wore 3 jackets, brr. I was okay without the snow.
