More secrets revealed today.
So, one resolve that Elenka has for me in 2015 is to learn to cook? On New Years Eve, we were invited to friends' Alan and Sylvia's home for a dinner of tuna steaks, dipped in various spices and then pan-seared and a delicious salad of red potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, lettuce, olives, hard boiled eggs and more. Cooking, you see, is a bit scary for me; however, I do enjoy watching others do the deed. I enjoy viewing the Food Network too. Please don't ask me why. I couldn't give you an honest answer. Maybe it's because working in the kitchen seems so alien to me, and besides my culinary efforts would pale along side Elenka's work at the stove. My favorite shows that get my attention are "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" with Guy somebody, "The Barefoot Contessa" and "Giada at Home" with Giada De Laurentiis filling up my TV screen... and oh, she cooks too? What do ya know. Her outfits are mighty fine too! But really, all of them make cooking look so damn easy. They make it look like I could do it. The challenges for me would be getting all the supplies and ingredients together and then coordinating when everything should be cooking. That and having a 'master' chef lurking over my shoulder. Ah, but I refuse to be lulled into that evil trap. But you know maybe I will tip-toe into doing a little work in the kitchen this winter. It's worth the risk. If I do, it'll be documented for sure.
By the way, just an aside.
Did you hear that Giada and her husband have gone split-ville?
Thought you'd like this bit of food trivia.
Delicious!
Anyone else secretly watch these shows?
... and wants to admit it?
Your photo certainly drew me in to the post. Wait, that's tuna?
ReplyDeleteGood luck in your cooking attempts. Wish I had (or had had) a teacher in the kitchen.
Shall wait for updates on your forays into the kitchen!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonder to me that you have survived all your life without knowing how master cooking!
ReplyDeleteI suddenly can see food presentation pics in your future, Birdman. :-)
ReplyDeleteGiada? Oh my, I watch her every day but I digress. I take my chef's hat off to you Bird for at least trying to cook. Take my advice, start with grilled cheese.

I will admit to watching Giada and Ina but, I really dislike the diners show so I don't watch it. I do however, love watching Iron Chef. I did not hear that Giada and hubby were splitting. He has become such a part of her show that I never thought that would happen. Oh well, Ina and Jeffrey are still together.
ReplyDeleteI watch Giada and try to catch Jamie Oliver whenever he is on. I also like Chopped!
ReplyDeleteIf there is one secret to good cooking, it is to start with the finest ingredients. Have a good recipe, go shopping, and then just put it all together. By all means have fun with it, and just think. You and Elenka get to eat the results. How can you lose?
ReplyDeleteNope, don't watch 'em, not even secretly. I've tried cooking. I am really good at boiling eggs and putting frozen dinners in the microwave. Other cooking stuff is just wasted energy! So there, too.
ReplyDeletethe cooking thing: you can do it, Birdman!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if the cooking show I used to watch is on PBS anymore, but it was Andreas Viestad "Kitchen of Light." (Norwegian, doncha know, and he was utterly gorgeous.) By the way, I would eat those beautiful tuna steaks raw, with just some wasabi and onion on the side.
ReplyDeletenope. don't like to cook. don't like cooking shows. i CAN cook. i just don't like fancy, foofy stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteYour brother doesn't cook either, and I wish he did. Guess you're both works in proigress. I love to cook and I love The Food Network (no secret about that). It's my "channel of choice" while I'm on the treadmill at the gym. My favorite is The Barefoot Contessa - never have made one of her recipes that I didn't like! My advice to you? Start out with some good crockpot recipes - check out http://www.skinnytaste.com Lots of great recipes with loads of flavor and healthy ingredients. So, dust off the crockpot and get busy!
ReplyDeleteI never Watch cook shows , and I don't like to cook ! I do it because I'm OBLIGED to do it .I'm simply not interested .. (and , BTW, I like tuna steak!)
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of name is Giada?
ReplyDeleteI can cook, but not much!
Cooking is scary for me too. The fast food places around me are starting to know me, it's not good. I do admire people who love to cook, watching them is almost as good as the meal.
ReplyDeleteTry one pot cooking then you don't have to co-ordinate other dishes.
ReplyDeleteThose tuna steaks look MARVELOUS! Cooking is an art. . .go for it. Only one tip: clean up as you go along!
ReplyDeleteI do some basic cooking, just to survive on my own, and I would love one of those steaks...
ReplyDeleteHey, here's a simple Iron Chef recipe: take one of those tuna steaks, cut it into bite-sized pieces, then eat them raw, dipped into a mixture of soy sauce and wasabi horseradish. Heaven!
ReplyDeleteThese are great looking tuna steaks. I sure hope you didn't practice on them!
ReplyDeleteOh yum.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, I'm a Food Network addict. Chopped is my favorite. I've been cooking for quite a long time and am rather good at it, so I've been told. But they manage to find an ingredient almost every segment that I've never even heard of!
