I've been wrong?
How can that be?
What we are looking at in this image is an estuary that I have always called Back Bay. My old high school overlooks it, seen here in the distance, and for many of my formative years, I lived overlooking it. How could I be this much out of the loop? Let me try this again. What you are looking at here is Back Cove. It is on the northern end of the city, and Baxter Boulevard circles it, as does a popular loop walking trail. At low tide, the area in view is a tidal mud flat of about a mile in diameter. At one time, I believe, raw sewage from the city flowed into this are and created quite an aromatic 'delight'. Thankfully those days are long gone.
Back Bay?
It won't happen again.
I'm sorry for any false information I have ever passed along.
"Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa"
Can't be right all the time; just relax and enjoy the scenery!
ReplyDeleteYet friends still accuse me of being a know-it-all at times? What gives?
DeleteBeen here 45 years and everyone I've known has called it Back Bay. Who knew?
ReplyDeleteRaw sewage. Ugh! How could we?
ReplyDeleteGlad this scenic spot is no longer a poopy zone Birdman, that would have been more than a little unpleasant until the wind changed and blew it out to sea :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful little spot. I'm glad the air is fresh now.
ReplyDeleteat least you owned it! :)
ReplyDeleteEW! I'm glad raw sewage is no longer dumped there!
ReplyDeleteDo not worry: on the coast of Tuscany, most of us still believe to be on the Tyrrhenian Sea, but geography says that we are on the Ligurian Sea...
ReplyDeleteI love the deep blue of the water.
ReplyDeletePlease don't feel the need to whip yourself for this. That's a beautiful sight to grow up with (minus the sewage).
ReplyDeletewho cares about a name , especially when a place is so pretty?..
ReplyDeleteNo worries. If the locals call it "Back Bay" then Back Bay it is. Who ever pays attention to those highly educated geographers anyway. Perhaps they got it wrong. Lovely winter photo with many shore birds enjoying the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteSomeone probably changed the name on you!
ReplyDeleteWhatever its name it is a pretty place now days without the aromas of the past!
ReplyDeleteFor a long time estuaries like this were prime dumping grounds for sewage. They did that a lot in San Francisco Bay, too. So glad people have learned.
ReplyDeleteNow, in your spare time write "Back Cove" on the blackboard. When you're done, clean all the erasers.
Since the picture is so pretty, you can be forgiven just this once.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like the locals do refer to it that way, so Back Bay it is, and hang the geographers (I think the same thing of the astronomers who decided for no good reason to demote Pluto).
ReplyDeleteJust follow Kay's advice and all will be forgiven.
ReplyDeleteNice shot.
ReplyDeletei am glad i was sitting down! beautiful view of back bay or cove or whatever!
ReplyDeleteWe can't always get it right! Every day comes around pretty often!
ReplyDeleteHey, everybody makes mistakes and you're getting older, ya know! Heck, I'm lucky if I can find my way home after a round of golf.
ReplyDeleteWell, sure, the big area is Back Cove, but see that smaller place at the right? That is Back Bay.
ReplyDeleteAnd just north of this is a great restuarant calked the Muddy Rudder if I remember correctly. Great food.
