Painted Toes

I know it's summer, but this morning I think I might be feeling my way across a layer of thin ice. What's the deal with painted toes? Now, I'll be the first to admit that there are a few angles of the female psyche that still confuse me, but pained toes? After all, aren't toes  just those little appendages that dangle off the ends of your feet. Your feet! Your feet! Here's a bit of a case study. In my younger days in the midst of checking out a local watering hole or at a dance at the Rug Factory (ya, that was the name of a local dance hall) or Serenity Hill (another all night dancing spot), I never EVER looked at a young lady's feet. I guess my mind was on the music or other things. Now, I have no issue if women want to take to polishing their 'little piggies'. Go ahead and splash on the Red! The Purple! The Pink! Heck, throw on Red, White, and Blue for all I care. My only three questions would be why?why?why?
I can see fingernail polishing. The fingers, after all, are out there for all the world to see! They are in the lead! Out front! They are everywhere! They are hard not to notice, but your FEET?
I'm struggling here.
Can anyone out there help me?
I want to rest easy tonight.

Off to the musical "Sister Act" this afternoon.
I wonder if Sister Marie or Sister Delores ever worried about 'jazzing up' their toes.
What do you think?

  1. Yes, but maybe, just maybe, it is ALL about the toes. :-)

  2. Very timely post sinceI just got a manicure and pedicure with bright pink polish. Looks great with sandals. Granted, feet are not the most attractive part of one's anatomy (unless you have a fetish of some kind) but toenail polish and a pedicure always makesme feel great!! Send me your email; I'll send you a photo that will convince you of my terrific results. That will settle the matter for you forever!! No more worries about painted toenails, Birdman.

  3. Toenails are a great excuse to use color & to embellish! Me, I love them all colored & shiny. For some people backs and arms are meant for tattoos...(now that kind of embellishment makes ME ask why...) No, the sensible shoes of Sister Marie and Delores are not compatible with painted nails...But, you have to admit, those toes in the photo, way down there, caught your eye!

  4. I just accept it that women get their toes done for themselves and not for men.

  5. I have sensitive skin and avoid makeup because most of it makes me break out. I don't paint my toenails but now that it is sandal season, I notice that my toenails look dingy and a little discolored. Nail polish would fix that.

  7. my country feet are so calloused and even stained from running barefoot too often, i'd never paint my toes (or my fingers, either.)

  8. If you are going to expose your toes in sandals, they should be pedicured and painted. That's my philosophy. In Arizona, sandals are worn all year long so the pedicure business is alive and well in this part of the world.

  9. PS. Birdman, the address you sent me will not work; I tried it several times without success. Send it to me again at my address listed in my profile.

  10. I like to paint them in summer - bright red at the moment!
It's been raining for 2 days here.

  11. Here's what you do: Drink two martinis and take a nap. Women's toes are none of your concern.

  14. Hi Birdman, A good question and some interesting answers. Somewhat related: I once asked my wife, Why do women wear high heels? She gave me a one-word answer: men. :-)

  16. Painted toenails are the only thing that makes sense. Painted fingernails aren't practical if you want to actually dig into life. They chip and tear and make you live cautiously. Painted toes last for a couple of weeks and look nice in summer sandals. I painted mine this morning!

  17. I think women should just show off their toenail fungus the way we men do.

  18. I like your composition. And I like that they're called an embellishment. That probably covers it.

  19. If I had pretty toes like Kate I'd paint 'em too. But me, with gnarly feet, all scarred by surgery (my toes were actually amputated by some orthopedic surgeon who thought he was doing me a favor; he sewed them back on but they've never been the same since). I'm one of those that never goes out in public with my feet uncovered but if I had pretty ones, sandles and polish would be on my next shopping list.

P.S. That Lowell is a hoot!
