I love to drive long distances.
Elenka, not so much.
This is our our story.
The ride is free.
Come along.
Well, some of you might remember that last month Justin and Yelena packed up and headed to Texas. Austin to be exact. They had to transport two cars to the Southwest, and we really didn't want them to take both cars at the same time. Two drivers in one car was a safer way to go; we told them. They were not taking a direct shot to get there either. They first traveled right down the East coast to Florida to visit Babka, Justin's grandmother and took a few assorted side trips. After about 17 days or so, they and the red WRX were finally settled in the Lone Star State. After talking them out of taking both cars at the same time, I suggested that Elenka and me could drive J's Audi to Austin for them. I was game from the start. Elenka had her doubts. We had both been to Texas before but never driven from Maine.
There's a first time for everything, you know.
So, last week we did.
Over the next few days, I'll take you along on OUR ride.
Free up some time and come along.

  2. 'Tis quite a distance you travel, my friend. We used to do that a lot - between Texas and Minnesota, Texas and California, Texas and Florida. Not so much anymore. I can barely make it to the supermarket these days. ;)

  4. Looking forward to the trip. As a kid we traveled from Maine to California then back to Maine and then to South Dakota....yep, dad was in the Air Force. Stationed at Loring AFB in ME, Sacramento for B-52 school, back to ME and then to Ellsworth in Rapid City, SD. My Air Force trips would go like this; FL to TX to CA to ME to CA to ME to SD to TN to OH. Oh, mind you the roads were, let's just say narrower then.

  7. I think that would be fun. In 11 days I start my own semi-annual long trip, this time from Hartford to Naples. I look forward to seeing some of your sights.

  9. This should be interesting! When my sister moved to Austin last June with her family, they shipped two of their cars and drove one from Baltimore. It took them three days and I enjoyed getting updates from them while they were on the road. I'll be going out there in a couple of weeks, but I'm leavin' on a jet plane, so it will be a little faster. Looking forward to seeing posts about your trip!

  10. You know how much I love a Texas road trip. I see you're traveling I30 entering the state at Texarkana. I haven't been to Texarkana in years but if you want to see my favorite courthouse in the state you'll make a quick exit in Sulphur Springs which is right on the interstate! My opinion of your route: You'll see lots of landscape but not much of what I love about Texas. You'll get to do that once you get t Austin. And I do hope Justin has given you a tutorial for navigating all the toll roads in and through Austin! I hope you have a grand time in our great state!

  11. I see you are passing through Memphis and not STL. What a shame. I don't have the patience for those kind of drives. Here to Memphis is a grind for me.

  13. Hey you are missing Oklahoma!! It looks like you are going through Hope, Arkansas though. Honk for Bill Clinton as you go through even though he won't be there.

  14. Love road trips, esp if they're long and cover new territory.
