Rope in Sun

Let's see. What to write about today. Maybe I could do a bit of punning about being tied up with my work, or how about a life lesson I learned from watching Ali and his 'rope a dope'? Ah...I have a few stories about playing Cowboys and Indians and tying my unfortunate brother to my sister's rocking chair? How about swinging from the rope swing on those Sunday trips to Forest Lake with Leo and friends? Or maybe, I could tell a tale about dragging our homemade rafts across the high water at Gulliver's Pond? Then there was the time at the knot tying Boy Scout class, when the Scout Leader told me that maybe, just maybe, I wasn't cutout for the 'scouting tradition'. Oh well, I'm done and not fit to be tied either!

  1. Remember Alfred Hitchcock's movie, the Rope? Great thriller.

Or the thrill of you 'tying one on' in your younger days?
    Ahhh, those were the days.
When I think about the times we used to drive when we probably should not have, it makes me shudder.....Youth is wasted on the young.

  2. But I always wonder, how do you tie such giant ropes?

  15. Ha! I think you had an interesting childhood, Birdman. Amazing what a photo of ropes reminded you of.

  17. Boy, you got me tied in knots. You said, "Now there's an oxymoron." I said, "Where?" And I've been running around looking for an oxymoron ever since. Found lots of morons, but no oxymorons.

Have a great evening up there in the northlands!

  18. How about "I came across a coil of rope today and thought it would make a nice picture"?

  19. Hokay...I'll try to 'splain it to you. When Mr. Golen bought 25 miles of land in what is now the southwest area of Ocala back in the 70s, much of that was a big ranch, called the Circle Square Ranch. Golen built what has turned out to be a huge 55 plus community called On Top of the World. But that has taken up only a small portion of the ranch land.

About 4-5 years ago the Del Webb corporation bought from Mr. Golen land that was located just north of the northern edge of OTOW. That became Stone Creek which is where we live and which now consists of about 800 homes with a total of 4,000 homes projected.

But the ranch is still there...on the acreage between OTOW and Stone Creek and there are roughly 2500 head of cattle on it. We can hear them mooing and lowing in the night.

If you'll go back a few posts on Ocala Florida Photos you will find a series of shots featuring the some Brahma cattle at Circle Square Ranch. You will also notice that some of the Brahma cattle have been branded on their butts with a square containing a circle - i.e. Circle Square.

It may be an oxymoron or it may just be moronic or it may be...I dunno, nuttin!

Now all this 'splaining of stuff tired me out so's I'm heading to bed! Got an early golf game in the morning.

Hope you have a good nite! :-)

  20. Jack's comment gave me a chuckle. I like the repeating pattern on this rope. Makes for some nice artistry.

  22. I was New York City's worst Boy Scout. Rope was something to use to get over a fence or demobilize someone. And in coils? That was for girls' hair.
