Paint
I live with an artist, and that has made all the difference. I need to be around creativity to strive. That probably sounds a bit strange, I know, but it's true. There's something within my center that gets me reinvigorated seeing the artist work. The final results of the endeavor is fine, and I love looking at art, but there is something so stimulating for me about the process of getting there. I enjoy immensely reading about how writers and painters do what they do. Why writers write, and why painters paint? What drives them? What's at their creative epicenter? Many who view art just don't see that there's a process. They see the painting and leave it at that. What is creativity? Why do some get it, while others can't even see that there is a door to open there. What's the vision? What provides the inspiration? What is the imagination, and how does one get there? See what paint and a good book does to me?

Interesting....
ReplyDeleteYou get to see me paint, you get to walk around the legs of my French easel without killing yourself in the kitchen when I'm painting next to the wood stove in the winter. You get to see the triumphs and the frustrations. You work around the mess without complaining.
I do not witness your process when you write. But then, all of a sudden, voila, there is this amazing piece of writing.
Maybe it's equally as messy......
usually it's more internally messy for the writer, i think. although there's a certain writer i know whose desk is beyond cluttered.
ReplyDeleteet apres tu fais des projections de peintures sur des toiles ?
ReplyDeletewell, i can say that when i draw, i start out with the skills and techniques i know. at some point, though, something takes over and i do things i didn't know i knew how. divine inspiration? maybe. not sure. :)
ReplyDeleteSo, I guess you found the right wife, Birdman. You are lucky.
ReplyDeleteHey, my friend, you're not supposed to inhale all that stuff! :-)) Just kidding. I feel much like you do...except painters are soooo messy! My mom was one!
ReplyDeleteWhy do you and I take photographs? Every artist, I think, is an individual and has unique motivations. However, we probably all share a sense of satisfaction in making something that wasn't there before, something that has intellectual or emotional resonance.
ReplyDeleteI like all those questions; I've been surprised by how many people do *not* have questions. How could there not be questions??
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sharon. I watch people sometimes at the O'Keeffe museum and wonder.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think we are all in good company as we create our photographs. Seems as though it's a passion for many of us.
ReplyDeleteThat image looks so familiar to me Birdman, I have one exactly like that in my garage, I loooove to throw paint at a canvas and see what transpires, it's the most incredible feeling when you stand back and think..yeh this makes me happy!
