Dinner

If you are a card-carrying member of PETA please move along. There's nothing more to see here. Here's a brief history. Two nights ago, these four were sleeping soundly in beautiful Casco Bay. Last night? Well, I'll spare you the gory details and just leave it at this. They were delicious! We don't partake in them often, even though we live in one of the self-annointed lobster capitals of the world. Maybe a couple of times a summer. The price of these crustaceans can be pretty contentious at times too. This summer the prices seem good for the consumer, low for the lobstermen. Some years it's the other way around, although I bet it would be pretty difficult to find a lobsterman that would agree with me there. My final words on the lobster situation this summer?
"Pass the butter, please!"

  2. Thanks a lot, Birdman.

I try real hard never to look at the face of something I eat.

Now I have that fresh freckled face in my head......

  3. Haven't had one in years; that's the price for living in the Midwest yet I learn for one decent and delicious meal which I hope I can enjoy sooner than later. Better not to look at them, Elenka!

  6. I was just talking to some friends who have family in Nova Scotia about lobsters last night. These guys look delicious! I grilled a couple of lobster tails a two weeks ago and they were scrumptious; dipped in butter of course.

  7. Tough way to make a living for the lobsterman, but in the end, it sure benefits the restaurant goer :^)

  8. I assume these are cooked? Ours are bright red when... er... dead. I'll be right over but I'll skip the butter. Wouldn't mind a tiny little bit of garlic though.

This picture was taken about 20 minutes before we dined. They were VERY alive in this shot. When cooked they are the bright red.

  11. Somewhere today I read that you think of yourself as a saint. Well, after reading this post, I would guess it ain't St. Francis with whom you identify!

    You lobster killer, you! :-)

  13. Have had a lobster since visiting ME. some time ago. Prices in OH are outrageous. Found various prices while in ME. Best was actually on a former ferry docked in Portland then an Italian place in Bar Harbor and finally the highest was in Boothbay Harbor. Woops, forgot about the guy on the side of the side of the road leading to Bar Harbor....$3.50 with drawn butter. Pot was steaming.

  14. PETA? "People Eating Tasty Animals" you mean. I am a certified omnivore and always will be. We had a couple of bare breasted PETA (the other PETA) girls handing out recipes last week here in Tulsa. Yep, I got a recipe card and the view.

  15. Oh sure with that "please don't eat me" face.

  20. Good looking lobsters, Birdman. I read that this year they are so cheap that many lobstermen are keeping their boats in port.

  21. They are such a delicious treat!

  22. Birdman, that's a terrific photo on so many levels, visually, great color, interesting wild life, and it got my saliva running. Tell Elenka that it is good to be at the top of the food chain.

  23. Oh Yum! I do love lobster but if they are expensive in Maine, price one in Oklahoma. Maybe I will show up in Portland and ask for directions. And since you ask, the Tulsa BOK center has booked a lot of top names. We have seen Eric Clapton, Elton John, and Leon Russell.
