Ripple Effect

It the birthday of Kobayashi Issa, one of the masters of the simple but elegant haiku. In his lifetime he wrote more than 20,000 haiku, celebrating the simplicities of life in 17 syllables. Let me try one.

Breezes blow gently
Sun's waking but so slowly
Ripples echo now.

  1. I'm not big on haikus but I like your photograph. Your comment re "Rust Never Sleeps" applies here also. I was wondering if I may steal that someday for one of my post titles (since I live in a land where rust never takes a holiday).

  5. I like BOTh your photo and your haiku. We should try adding haikus to all of our posts for a week. I wonder how many takers we'd get?!

  7. B- I checked some haiku of kobayashi issa and interestingly enough, he doesn't always follow the 5-7-5 syllable pattern. I guess if you're a "master" it doesn't matter. Now you've got me all interested in Haiku again. Thank you...that's what I miss about teaching...the way inspiration comes from the students and colleagues!

    Tears on the kitchen table
    Workers despair

Thought I would try my hand at a haiku for kicks.
