Looking Back

It's -17° right now.
No, that's not a misprint. It really is -17°!

This is not fun any more! A heat wave is headed this way today. The weatherguy says expect the temps to top out at 22°. And this is suppose to make me feel better? Our family room is warm, so I'll spend the afternoon and evening entertaining myself with football. We got about 12 inches with that last snow that came in Thursday and Friday. The snow was of the light variety, and I was out Thursday afternoon and again yesterday morning snowblowing with my trusty Toro. The windchill and blowing snow were the killers. I wore a skier's face mask that really helped out. I think I would have been in trouble without it. Right now, we're off to find a nice, warm restaurant for breakfast.
Wish us luck.
No more looking back.
I'm looking forward towards spring.

update: 4 PM  and it's down to 17°. Another COLD one headed our way.

  1. That comfy chair looks PERFECT for watching the games, both today and tomorrow. We are now enjoying a balmy 18 degrees, with the forecast predicting plummeting temperatures. Our governor has closed all public schools for Monday with most private school already making the same decision. Wind chill is the "killer". . .I think school closures is a wise decision, just as your decision to find a warm and cozy breakfast spot is wise!! Enjoy the week-end. Go Packers!!

  2. I've been enjoying your blog and photos of Portland and the storm. Thanks for stopping by my blog and for your kind comment. I'm your newest follower and your plans for the day sound excellent...and yes...gotta' look forward to the best part of the year when Spring finally arrives here in Maine. That's what keeps me going... knowing that it always changes and it can't come too soon this year.

  3. This looks like a beautiful room to 'weather' the storm! I heard a news report from Boston yesterday describing the snow as very dry and powdery making if difficult to control. The wind just whips it up. Stay warm!

  4. Sounds like great fun. I lived in Minneapolis in the 50s and we had several years where we went two weeks without the temp exceeding -20. I drove a 1937 Chevy and the points went out every time it hit -24 and I was out on a date!

I know you're not having fun. When are you getting out of there?

  6. What a lovely window! Snow clearing does make one weary...Elenka said that she once saw daffodils in February...this can't last forever & Monday comes the thaw...Hope you had a lovely time dining out.

  8. Your photo is of a beautiful scene, inside and outside. I for one don't even want to imagine that sort of cold, much less have to deal with it. The temp here, at 4:34 p.m. is 41 degrees. It is forecast to be 34 degrees by the time I'm on my way home from the Portland Trail Blazers' game, around 9:30-ish. That's cold enough for my ol' self.

  10. What about that Colt comeback? If the weather was good, you might have been outside and missed it.

    Stay warm, Birdster.

  12. Drivers in our area are complete weenies in the slightest bad weather. What impresses me most is that you were heading out for breakfast after all that snow.

We expect to get 6 to 10 inches tonight and Sunday. All events for tomorrow - everything - have been canceled. We will get lows of -8 to -10 Sunday and Monday night. It hasn't been below zero here in 15 years. Sheesh, we're as far south as Washington.

  14. Looks cosy and warm in there.

Outside it is COLD, and I can nearly feel it all the way over to where I am. Beautiful winter images. I enjoyed them. Keep warm and eat lots of warm soup.... :)
