B-Ball

Blistering sun, ice and snow and sometime in a driving rain, we played  either in our driveway or at the Morrill School's outdoor court. Sometimes, on Saturdays we'd sneak into the Stevens Avenue Armory and play in our stocking feet till the janitors threw us out. We even had fun at the Nelsons' seven foot basket, showing off that even little white guys could dunk.
I think, it's still 'king' in the state, with high school football fast-approaching. Back aways, the NIT  (National Invitational Tournament) played at Madison Square Garden was big too. Maybe as big as the NCAA's. In the early Sixties, Providence College had quite a run, reaching the finals 3 out of 4 years, as I remember. They won it in '61 and again in '63. Dad went to PC for two years, so those games were always on our TV.
But I digress. How are your brackets doing after 48 games?
I'm a pretty sorry 31-17, but my Final Four is still intact.
Elenka? She's in my rearview mirror at 21-27.
So much for Mad Science!

  3. Isn't basketball merely a good excuse for a bunch of folks to run around and wear each other out? Now golf, there's a real sport! :)

  4. Based on what I heard on the news this morning, no one is doing very well with their scores this year.

And I didn't even get to see it, I just hear about it after the fact on FB.

  10. Since Tallahassee is the home of the 2013 BCS National Champions and the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner, football is obviously king around here for now anyway.

  11. Really good shot, strong graphics. There were basketball hoops near my apartment in Queens on a concrete schoolyard and a blacktop city playground. I was hopeless regardless of the surface.

  12. I don't fill out a bracket. I just cheer for my teams, both men and women. Ohio State men lost a heartbreaking first game against Cinderella Dayton, and the FGCU women got trounced in their first game. But, the UConn men and women are still going strong. The road for the UConn men is uphill, but the UConn women should roll unless Notre Dame is really hot in the finals.

  13. FGCU women trounced? What am I talking about? They lost by one point in overtime. The ones who got trounced were the FGCU men in the NIT.
