Back Door

An afternoon trip to Lisbon yesterday brought me here. The front of this classic New England barn seems newly painted, sort of a soft, weathered yellow. Walk to the rear, and you're faced with this, tall weathered boards with a ramp covered with moss and weed growth. This was a little surprise. A view not seen from the farmhouse itself. My sister Connie from Lakeland (Lakeland checking in) and her husband Irv are visiting Maine for a few weeks. They travel in a 35 foot camper and make the trip in 2 days, 14 hours the first day and 10 the second. I'm sure it has most of the comforts of home, and for someone who likes the 'adventure' of the open road, I'd like to think that I'd enjoy the motoring around.
Factor in the gas and upkeep though...
The jury's still out on this for me.
It was a wonderful afternoon of 'catching up', and Amato's Italians were on the menu.
Marchin and his wife Donna and Elenka and I ventured together to Lisbon.
I even got to meet Max, a Westie.
Family time is time well spent.

  5. I think the open road beckons me less now than it used to. More than a few hours driving time and I'd rather fly.

  11. A simple but quite mysterious door... By the way, I am past adventures and I like normal holidays now!

  12. I love the weathered barn! My sister and her husband travel exclusively in a motorhome and they love it. However, they drive much slower than your sister. My sister likes to travel only 300 to 500 miles per day and most of the time much less than that. They also take only the state and county highways and not the freeways. They really like to take on leisurely trip. We are opposites that way. I hop on a plane to get there in one day.

  13. As usual, great pic and great story. We motorhome it, like that the only bed bugs se have to worry about are our own. More leisurely than either your sister or the previous commenter....2-1/2 to 3 hrs on the road and then sit and meet people from all over. It would take me a week to get to the Portland area.
