Clothespins

Elenka is heading to Florida in a couple of weeks, and I'll have to fend for myself for a week or so. I'll manage. I always do. I'll do mostly mundane activities like hang the wash, tend to the garden and probably a little project or two. Or sure, I'll be handed a couple of 'work orders' from the boss that will or not get completed. I'll have excuses lined up. Don't worry. One thing that I won't do though is go out to a restaurant and eat alone. Stopped by The Muddy Rudder, after the Maine State Music Theater show yesterday, for dinner, and the gal next to us was eating alone. She looked kind of bored with her meal although, with the help of her cell, she photographed her entire meal, the marsh out the window and even the menu. I told you she seemed bored. Didn't I? Now, I do like my 'alone time', but eating out alone at a pricey restaurant is not my way of enjoying a summer evening. I can grab an early morning joe or an afternoon pick-me-up, as long as I can find a newspaper or a magazine handy. I know. I know. Some of us out there can pull it off. Many people do it daily. I see them all the time. But not me. So, if you're in Portland in a couple of weeks, and you happen to see a gent at a table by himself enjoying an evening's repast.
Don't ask...
"Could that really be Birdman?"
"Should I go and introduce myself?"
Hurry along.
I'll take the pressure off.
It's not me.
I'm home manning the grill, taming a couple of cheese burgers with onions.
Enjoy your meal though.

REVIEW-
Yesterday's show at MSMT was a 'Don't Miss'! "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" was so entertaining! WOW! The dancing! If you find yourself near Brunswick in the next couple of weeks, check this one out.
Better than"Buddy", by a little.
Better than "Chamberlain".
Best of the season, so far!

  4. Since I traveled for work for nearly 12 years, I learned to eat alone at restaurants a long time ago. I enjoy seeing how the different wait staff react to a woman dining alone. Sometimes I don't get the best service but that seems to be getting rarer. For the most part, most servers are very friendly.

  6. Love the way you photographed these clothspins!
My husband travels often for his job and I usually look forward to having a few days alone (I can eat popcorn for dinner and watch all the sappy movies I want). But it's always nice when he comes back too. :)

  8. I guess if you travel like Sharon you can't avoid eating alone. I wouldn't even like to go to my local pub alone even though everyone knows my name and what I drink. Funny isn't it?

  9. Cheeseburgers are a good meal idea for the brief bachelor's time out!

  10. That is a totally wonderful photo, Mr.Birdman! Thanks for the tip about the play. I'll be down that way shortly, so perhaps we'll go see it. I would have guessed that that person alone was doing work for her blog or for a review..

  11. Speaking of clotheslines, I know someone who bought a brand-spanking new clothes wringer for the low, low price of $999.99. So now I'm worried -- what do clothespins cost these days?

  12. Nothing like having the place to yourself for a bit. Beer, burgers, and a good movie are always a good way to pass the time.

  15. One of the few restaurant meals - at a nicer place - that I've had alone happened to be in Maine. A lobster dinner, of course. I went to a conference in Portland & booked a pre-conference excursion that was cancelled. There I was, extra time and no adventure so I solo'd and headed north up the coast. Not what I'd planned, but heck. Maine? I can think of much worse places to explore, alone or otherwise!

  16. Eating alone in a good restaurant is not too bad, as long as a smart phone is tagging along. Love the clothespin photo--still have a basket in my basement and rise the pleasure of hanging freshly laundered clothes on a line outside.

  17. I eat alone at restaurants all the time. The best ones have bars serving food, and enough people at the bar for me to strike up a conversation. MUCH better than being home alone.
