Paddling

We stopped by East End Beach yesterday early. It was warm already, and Casco Bay was almost glass-like calm. Perfect conditions for a morning adventure upon the bay. Portland Paddle operates out of this area. They have a large selections of small craft to rent, but they really cater to sea kayakers and paddle boarders. I have never kayaked, but could see me taking a chance with this activity, however I just don't understand standing on a surfboard and paddling around. Sounds and looks like an activity invented for lazy surfers.
Hahahahahaha!
I better not say anything further.
Oh well, we took about a mile walk along the water.
It's an area of the city that I had never investigated before.
Nice little adventure.

  1. It was the most perfect morning. The bay was gorgeous, calm and picturesque. Early morning was great for this, all done by 10:30 a.m. Good idea Birdman!!<3

  2. We still have our canoe altho we don't use it too often; can't bear to get rid of it after so many fond memories of adventures on the St. Croix river and camping. Never owned a kayak, but my grandkids love them! Colors in your photo are bright and cheerful.

  3. I like kayaking but I don't think I have good enough balance to paddleboard.

  7. I'm so glad to hear you say that about the paddle boards. It's become very popular around southern California and every time I see it I wonder how that could possibly be any fun.

  14. That is a lovely part of the city...I have perhaps what might be called a lazy person's kayak: Keowee, meant for calm waters & lakes...I'm glad you all had such a lovely morning...

  16. Walk! Walk! Me, too! I've done some sea kayaking, even took a class where I wore a wet suit and rolled the thing to make sure I'd learned how to come up breathing. But DH is more of a rower than a paddler and I didn't have a lot of strength for sustained paddling.
Wizard of Oz was my most favorite book as a kid. A girl on an adventure? In those days it wasn't so common.

  17. Those are a lot of life vests. It's been years since I've been in a canoe, but I loved it.

  18. Love sit-on-top kayaks and have tried paddle boarding, but like you, do not quite get the appeal of standing up and paddling while trying to balance on a bobbing board. I'd much rather sit or lie down on that board. :)) xx
