They call them the lazy, hazy days of summer. Yesterday wasn't lazy or hazy though. It was beautiful. It was a good time to run some errands and meet up with J- for lunch at Crema on Commercial Street. They have a pretty good tuna salad sandwich on delicious homemade bread, and we each sampled one along with an ice coffee. I'm usually here much earlier in the morning and sit right by the window. Yesterday, we found a table at the back of the spacious room and had great view of afternoon sun showing itself through this large window. Good day to get out and about, because today will all be about heavy rain. I did get to see J's new place. A bit cramped for two, but some might call it cuddly. It reminded me a lot of our first place on Deering Street. They'll really get to know each other this winter! Ah... youth!
Get me a book!
Got to get me a copy of In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette.
Have heard lots of great reviews.
Anybody read it?
nice big window to view from!
ReplyDeleteTuna on homemade bred sounds tasty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a memorable time spent with your J. at the great (& fairly new to Portland, yes?) Crema.
ReplyDeleteAh youth...
I don't know the book. I'm reading The Book Thief after having seen the movie.
Haven't read it but I have another recommendation for you. Read The Boys in the Boat, a terrific story of the rowing crew from Washington University who went to the 1936 Olympics. I've recommended it to several friends and blogger, all of whom loved it! Let me know if you do and if you enjoy it as much as I.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of that book. I've been reading a lot on Berlin/German history recently. I can recommend Alone in Berlin by Hans Fallada. It's a beautifully written story based on true events. I also liked The Great Escape: A Canadian Story. And The Nazi Officer's Wife was also a fantastic read.
ReplyDeleteI think I should have a tuna sandwich for lunch today! I am in a Lee Child groove right now - love Jack Reacher.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a beautiful day to enjoy yesterday. I heard on the news this morning about the storm headed your way today.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a tuna sandwich and coffee. Don't eat too much tuna, though, 'cause they're full of mercury. I haven't read the book. Heck, I can't recall ever reading "The Iceman Cometh." My bad.
ReplyDeleteAny sandwich on good, homemade bread is fine by me...
ReplyDeleteI'm one who followed Kate's "Boys in the Boat" recommendation & loved it. I've not heard of "In the Kingdom..." Sounds cold. I usually end up wearing extra layers when I read books like that...and drink lots of hot beverages...and dream of snow.
Nice shot. At first sight I thought it was a painting.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I could find something in there to my liking. Not a fan of seafood, but I'm sure they've got plenty on the menu.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't read it but that looks like a great place to drink some coffee.
ReplyDeleteLooks balmy but September is coming to Maine soon.
ReplyDeleteI've read many books about polar explorations . Only God knows how many sailors died during those adventures ..
ReplyDeleteThe place seems inviting , and your summer sounds quiet and peaceful.
Just heard about the heavy rain on Long Island. Whew!
ReplyDeleteSo this is your 'hang out' hey Birdman.. must be good coffee to have you coming back so often :) I think it would be really great sitting by that window when it's raining outside too!
