Movie Mural

Fall's nearly here. Winter will soon be on our doorstep. Life in this neighborhood will soon be 'frozen'. Why can't September be a summer month? Oh well. Each September, Elenka hangs a piece of art outside her classroom. The poster shows a scene from a recent movie and has a theme connected to some positive aspect that students will be working on in the coming year. It's best explained in her words,"My school 'movie mural' is done. Based on the movie FROZEN and the song "Let It Go". 'Howls' is a school thing which means 'Habits of Work and Learning', something the kids get graded on. Specifically Respect, Responsibility and Perseverance. My 23rd year of doing movie murals. 7'7"x 4'6" in size."

To think that this project of hers all started with 'You Are Never "Home Alone" at KMS' in 1991.
Rumor has it this will be her final display.
Time will tell.

  1. Wow! I doubt I could make it in Elenka's school. I wouldn't have a clue about what that mural is about. I'm THINKING I saw the movie "Frozen", but if so I certainly don't remember a song called "Let It Go". So I guess I'll just have to . . . uhm, let it go. :-)

  2. Sorry, it does not photograph well behind glass! Note the paint brush in her overhead hand.....she's the one that wrote the 'black' words on the mural. Tough to see...

  5. I've never seen that movie but, I can't imagine not hearing the song. It was played everywhere all the time for quite a while. I became fond of it because it was sung by a favorite singer of mine, Idina Menzel. I love the mural! It's beautiful.

  8. Howl's sounds like a brilliant annual event, I'm sure the students really look forward to seeing what the mural for each September is going to be.

  9. The students must LOVE these welcome back murals, enhancing the excitement & anticipation of a new art year. I ADORE this Disney film, including the music, I think it can strike a chord for different ages. So, there is a hint of possible news in this post? Elenka, I wish I could see the real mural in its actual size.

  11. Recently saw the movie Frozen. Not too bad, but a flawed film. The heroine was not all that sympathetic, and she refused to seek the advice of those who knew better.

  12. It's a terrific piece of work!

I have not seen the movie, and have given a listen to the soundtrack- the score appeals to me, not the songs though.

  14. "Let it go" is the basis of a pretty interesting year of discussions. I think Elena will also be able to let it go when the time is right.

  16. Wife and son went to see Frozen and I feel like I missed out. All the Frozen stuff out there and I don't get it.

  17. I was more knowledgeable about this kind of movies when my son was a kid, so I know the old ones but I missed this Frozen. It's not that I do not watch them anymore, but there is always other stuff up the queue...

  18. Dream on, Birdman. It is easier to build new Habitat houses than to try to rehabilitate a place than has gone far down hill like this one. My guess is that it needs foundation work as well. The walls have no insulation, and there is no HVAC system. Could likely have new construction more cheaply than this rehab.
