Got caught in a wave of thunderstorms the other day. Heavy rain, gusty winds and a little far-off lightning rolled on for over three hours. It was one of those fronts that showed massive shades of green across the radar. Frustrating and unsettling for those, like myself, that had a day of fun in the sun planned. At least it gave the local drainage system a workout. Here the water was just gushing down this walkway. These brave lads just went about their day. This guy took shelter in an overhang outside a candy store. Never have been a big candy guy; although at times, it is hard to pass up making a purchase of raspberry
Twizzlers or passing a Mike and
Ike machine and not throwing a couple of quarters away. And please, when
Elenka's not in sight, don't put a dish of assorted jelly beans in my line of sight. Most of the time, I just like to look at it in its plastic wrapping and overpriced bags. As a kid, I did enjoy colored gum drops, those orange candy slices and the mint green leaves in a jar at my grandmothers. I always ate too many. As I said, I'm not a big candy guy. Oh, almost forgot I can never pass up
needhams. It's the coconut that I crave!
Maine needham recipe:
ps. you don't even taste the potatoes... just chcolate and coconut! mmmmmm
tu n'as pas fait des photos des eclairs de l'orage ? hummm la noix de coco avec du chocolat c'est delicieux
ReplyDeleteI feel the same about chocolate Birdman, not really keen, but hey if you're going to leave any around unprotected well y'know a person might just have to clean up!! It's only a problem when it's a 'family block' can cause ructions, when the 'family' don't get any!! As for the rain, your summer sounds very much like our winter...sorry about that haha!
ReplyDeleteCandy is ok but Ice Cream is my big weakness. I like the composition of this shot.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! Such a treat to read your thoughts and see your photos. Your theme-day post is super, too.
ReplyDeleteI love your narrative.
ReplyDeleteAnd the photograph that goes with it of course.

We would call that kind of rain storm a "gully washer" around here and right now we are having them almost every afternoon. I love chocolate and coconut together! It is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteWe don't seem to be worthy this summer but we need the rain.
ReplyDeleteI can do without the candy unless it is made of chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI experienced hard rain and loud thunder Sunday morning in Riverside California. Since I don't get to see it enough in Phoenix, I was loving every minute of it. It did however, slow down my picture taking.
Lucky you with rain .... like how you comped this shot!
ReplyDeleteRain envy, here. Candy? Nothing with fruit flavors. Caramels and chocolate. Caramels with chocolate. Chocolate with caramels. That about covers it.
ReplyDeleteyou have just listed some of my very favorite candies...of course my list goes on ten times as long but needham's...ah, such a treat.
ReplyDeleteNow I am here scavenging for some inferior cookie after this list of sweet delicacies...
ReplyDeleteCandy is dandy but potato chips are my thing! Love them!
ReplyDeleteAre needhams a Maine thing? I always thought they were everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI am a chocolate person, nothing else draws my attention.
ReplyDeleteDo they have a candy anonymous in your area? I'm not suggesting you check it out, but, if the shoe fits... Heh, heh!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had the same weather as we did - almost exactly. But we get that almost every day in the later afternoon. Ah, Florida!
mmmm, coconut!
ReplyDeleteAloha from Waikiki;

Not a candy fancier but I love this photo Bird!

I wish we had that. The Midwest is baking under a dome of stagnant air - 101 today in STL and, unbelievably, 108 across the state in Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteNot a candy fancier, either, but I think that had something to do with a father in the commercial sugar business.
Wow. Sounds like we swapped weather for a little bit. If you don't mind... you can keep the rain if it means we get a little more sun!
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate, but I need to forget it a little bit! :)
ReplyDeleteI like a lot this picture with geometric lines, a cool composition!
Hugs

We haven't had enough rain, so I am OK with the occasional downpour. Like your picture. Candy? Not so often. I pigged out too much when younger.
ReplyDeleteI noticed some fallen leaves this morning on my way to work...
